Episode SummaryThis week, Jeanetta opens up about the past four months of unexpected challenges, including three significant mountain bike crashes that left her with broken ribs and a fractured pinky. She explores what it means to show up honestly, even when things aren’t polished or perfect, and how storytelling helps us move through pain toward meaning. In this episode you’ll hear:* Jeanetta’s honest account of three consecutive bike crashes and their physical/emotional impact* How slowing down created space for presence and self-reflection* Why hiding can sometimes be protective — and how to re-emerge with intention* The power of storytelling as a tool for healing, connection, and marketing differently* An invitation to honor your own seasons of setback, rest, and renewalIf you’ve been navigating a hard season, this episode will remind you that you’re not alone — and that your body, your story, and your timing are all worthy of respect.Resources & Ways to Connect* Website: somamoonwellness.com* Substack: Subscribe for updates and reflections* Instagram: @somamoonwellness* Questions or requests? Episode 33 - When the Tools Start Working
Hi, love—and welcome back to Becoming Her.It’s Steph here, Jeanetta’s partner behind the scenes, usually editing and cheering from the background. This year has been one of deep growth for me. Again and again, I find myself revisiting old beliefs and patterns—gently asking if they still serve the woman I’m becoming. With growth comes discomfort: the tender work of sitting with feelings, naming them honestly, and allowing myself to process what I’m actually experiencing. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.The hard reality is that we are ultimately the ones who get to choose and reframe how we want to feel and how we want to show up in this world. I choose to live with purpose and lead with intention. Having this as my north star brings me peace. When I notice unhappiness or anger rising, I’ve learned to pause and look inward, asking what I can shift to return to my calm, grounded place.Because that’s what today’s episode is really about—what happens when the tools you’ve gathered start to work, and the invitation to take radical responsibility for your life. It’s both terrifying and liberating, but it’s also where real growth begins. So as you listen, I invite you to be curious and look at yourself honestly—notice the places where your tools are already working, and ask what it might look like to live with radical responsibility today.Much Love,Steph WoodsEpisode SummaryHi love, and welcome back to Becoming Her. In this episode, Jeanetta gets real about that pivotal (and scary) moment in healing when the tools you’ve been practicing actually start to work—and you can no longer hide behind the story that you’re “not ready yet.”She explores what it means to move beyond collecting tools, certifications, or self-help practices, and instead step into action, radical responsibility, and living with intention. From nervous system regulation to financial literacy, from coffee habits to storytelling, Jeanetta shares personal examples of how growth sneaks up on us, and why honesty and small, consistent changes matter more than perfection. This conversation is part wake-up call, part permission slip: to stop waiting, to celebrate your progress, and to live the life you want right now.Mentioned in this episode:* The nervous system freeze vs. challenge response* Radical responsibility and belief systems* Growth through podcasting and consistency* Coffee, sugar, and old patterns of numbing* Storytelling as a tool for healing and visibility* Sneak peek: the upcoming Becoming Her Stories programResources & Ways to Connect:* Website: somamoonwellness.com* Substack: Subscribe for updates and reflections* Instagram: @somamoonwellness* Questions or requests? Episode 31 - How to Feel Your Emotions Without Being Hijacked
Hi Love!Welcome back to Becoming Her. I’m Steph, Jeanetta’s business partner. Most days you’ll find me behind the scenes polishing episodes and quietly cheering her on, but today I wanted to share a recent experience of feeling big emotions in my body. This past week I was in Minneapolis visiting family and friends. I haven’t lived in South Minneapolis in over a decade, and between the hugs, the familiar streets, and the conversations that stretched late into the night, I could feel myself carrying more than just my backpack.I’ve been doing a lot of self-work lately, learning to notice, name, and process my emotions. And still, in the middle of all that love and connection, there were moments when my body spoke louder than my words. One night, seven of us were tossing around ideas about where to eat. I’d been craving vegetables after a fried-food binge the day before, but it was Monday and most places were closed. Everyone kept asking me what I wanted, and I just froze. The map searches weren’t helping, the choices felt too big, and the overwhelm hit me like a wave.In that moment, my body was so full of feeling I couldn’t form a sentence. So I cried. I stepped out of the room, not because I didn’t care, but because I needed to feel what was happening before I could speak. And that’s the practice, isn’t it? To notice when our bodies are asking for a pause. To let the tears be the translation when words aren’t ready. This week, Jeanetta guides us through the tender, necessary work of learning how to feel our emotions without being hijacked by them. She breaks down the science of the nervous system, shares somatic tools for noticing and naming sensations, and offers step-by-step ways to process fear, grief, and anxiety so they don’t run the show. Listening reminded me that these moments aren’t failures, they’re invitations—to be curious instead of judgmental, to return to our breath, and to remember that emotions are just energy in motion.Much love,StephEpisode SummaryIn this powerful follow-up to last week’s conversation on shame and leadership, Jeanetta Bodie takes us deeper into the how—how to actually feel your emotions in your body without being controlled by them. You’ll learn why emotions live in the nervous system, how to separate sensations from stories, and simple somatic tools to help you process feelings instead of getting stuck in them.Drawing on both science and lived experience, Jeanetta shares step-by-step practices for noticing, naming, breathing through, and completing emotional cycles. From “what-if fantasy” anxiety to “regret hangover” depression, she offers a grounded, compassionate approach to staying present—especially during life’s messy transitions. Whether you’re leading a team, raising a family, or simply navigating change, this episode will help you build the emotional capacity needed for authentic leadership. What You’ll Hear in This Episode:* Why emotions are more than thoughts—they’re experiences in your nervous system* The difference between the somatic and autonomic nervous systems* How to name sensations before attaching a story or identity to them* The role of breath in signaling safety to your body* Practical tools for processing fear, grief, and anxiety without getting stuck* The leadership power of tending to your own inner ecosystem firstResources & Links Mentioned:* The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron* Empower Your Core course – now moving to somamoonwellness.com* Join the free Soma Circle Pilot Session – August 20, 4 PM PT (email Jeanetta at [email protected] for the Zoom link)* Substack: Subscribe for updates and reflections* Instagram: @somamoonwellness This is a public episode. Episode 30 - Shame, Humiliation & the Leadership Gift We Overlook
Episode 30 – Shame, Humiliation & the Leadership Gift We OverlookIn this raw and deeply personal episode of Becoming Her, Jeanetta Bodie explores the difference between embarrassment, true shame, and toxic shame—and why our fear of them so often keeps us from taking risks. Through candid storytelling, she shares moments from her own life and leadership, from closing her yoga studio to a recent string of humbling mishaps, unpacking how shame can either isolate us or lead us toward humility, self-awareness, and deeper connection. With insights from authors Chip Dodd and Parker Palmer, Jeanetta reframes shame as a potential teacher rather than a sentence. She offers practices for processing it—both in solitude and in the safety of a trusted community—and connects it to Soma Moon’s vision for regenerative leadership: leading from wholeness, rhythm, and inner alignment. If you’ve ever carried the sting of humiliation, wrestled with self-worth, or wondered how to lead without abandoning yourself, this episode is a gentle but unflinching guide. What You’ll Hear in This Episode:* The difference between embarrassment, true shame, and toxic shame* Why shame is so tied to our ego—and how to shift from “I am a mistake” to “I made a mistake”* Personal stories of humility and self-forgiveness from Jeanetta’s own leadership journey* The role of nervous system awareness in processing shame* How community can hold space for the soul without judgment* An introduction to Soma Moon’s regenerative leadership approach* Invitation to join the free Soma Circle Pilot on August 20th and Soma Leadership CoachingMentioned in this episode:* The Voice of the Heart by Chip Dodd* A Hidden Wholeness by Parker Palmer* “Part of Me” by Collie BuddzResources & Ways to Connect:* Website: somamoonwellness.com* Substack: Subscribe for updates and reflections* Instagram: @somamoonwellness* Questions or requests? The Sabbatical: Rest, Reflection & Riding Whistler - Episode 29
Hi, love—it’s Steph.Jeanetta and I have different ways of unwinding. She heads to the mountains with her bike; I find my rhythm on the river with a raft. But what we both know, deep in our bones, is the power of unplugging—of letting nature hold us while we remember who we are.Listening to this episode, I could feel the exhale in her voice—the kind that only comes when we finally give ourselves permission to rest. It brought me right back to those long days on the river, when the only thing I have to track is whether I’m hungry or where the sun is in the sky. I love how nature rearranges us—how our faces soften, our bodies lighten, and joy becomes something you can actually see and feel. And there’s nothing quite like nature’s version of television: watching the wild unfold in real time. The way a bear steps quietly into a clearing, how sunlight flickers across moving water, or how an eagle circles overhead—unscripted, unrepeatable, and somehow always exactly what you needed. This episode isn’t really about mountain biking or van life. It’s about what happens when we stop pushing and start listening. If you’ve ever longed for a slower pace, or needed permission to press pause, this one’s for you.Much love,StephEpisode SummaryIn this deeply personal episode, Jeanetta invites you into the raw in-between—the space after closing her yoga studio and before launching what’s next. From the floor of her bedroom in pajamas, she reflects on a 28-day sabbatical spent living in a van, biking the mountains of Whistler, and slowing down in ways she never has before.More than a travel story, this is a gentle offering: a real-time glimpse into what it looks like to practice what you teach. Jeanetta shares the rhythms of van life, the joy of mountain biking with her family, the unexpected stillness, and the sacred discomfort of not being ready to “do” again just yet. This isn’t an episode filled with business strategy or educational frameworks. It’s a soft landing pad. A reminder that growth includes rest. That leadership includes not knowing. And that sometimes, showing up simply means telling the truth about where you are. What You’ll Hear In This Episode:* The surprising grief and tenderness after closing Iron Crane Yoga* Behind the scenes of 24 days living in a van across Canada* Why Whistler Bike Park feels like Disneyland for mountain bikers* Family rituals, daily rhythms, and the power of simplified living* Rest as resistance—and what it really looked like for Jeanetta* Reflections on van life, motherhood, and being present without a plan* A simple game (Best, Worst, Weirdest) you can borrow for reflection* The honest truth about returning home and still not being readyTake This With You:This episode is an invitation to listen without comparison. To hear one woman’s version of slowing down without thinking you have to do it the same way. If your nervous system is tired, if your life feels loud, or if you’re in a transition—this is your permission slip to pause, even if it looks different than you imagined.Resources & Ways to Connect:* Website: somamoonwellness.com* Substack: Subscribe for updates and reflections* Instagram: @jea.bodie* Questions or requests? Episode 28 - The Power of Your Inner Rhythm
Hi love,Steph here. This episode stirred something deep in me.The idea that we, as women, move through inner seasons and that our hormones shape how we feel and think each day was a true aha moment. I’ve always thought of myself as an emotional person, but when I started tracking my cycle, the waves of emotion and spiraling thoughts finally made sense. It gave me compassion. It reminded me I’m not broken, I’m simply riding the natural rhythms of hormonal shifts. That insight changed how I relate to myself. It helped me interrupt the old patterns of self-sabotage and instead offer grace, especially during the times I used to feel most defeated. What I’m learning is this: it’s not a one-and-done kind of practice. There are layers to it. At first, I just noticed how I felt emotionally. Now I’m tuning into my physical body, experimenting with what kinds of movement feel best in different phases of the month. And yep, I still mix up follicular and luteal sometimes. (Anyone else?)As part of this journey, I created Your Inner Rhythm tracker to help bring more awareness and intention to each phase. What surprised me, though, was that my first few versions had mostly negative reflections. I hadn’t even realized it until Jeanetta gently pointed it out. Why is it that, as women, we so often default to what’s wrong? What if we focused more on what’s working, what’s beautiful, what’s true? How might that shift not just our moods, but the way we feel in our bodies?I’m a visual learner, and I love sharing tools that bring rhythm and clarity to the chaos. If you’re on this path too, I hope the tracker helps you reconnect with your own natural flow and maybe even celebrate it.Here’s to honoring the seasons within. With love,StephEpisode SummaryIn this expansive and heartfelt episode of Becoming Her, Jeanetta shifts from the science of hormones and cycle tracking into the energetic and spiritual side of embodiment. After several deep dives into the physical layers of women’s health, she now invites you to explore the subtle body—what we feel, intuit, and know beyond words.Through the lens of yogic philosophy and lived experience, Jeanetta shares teachings from her Living Yoga program, including the five koshas (layers of the self), the chakra system, and the energetic flows of manifestation and liberation. She unpacks how these teachings help us recognize our own inner rhythm—and why learning to trust that rhythm is essential to how we live, lead, and relate to others. With honesty and vulnerability, Jeanetta reflects on her postpartum journey, the grief of closing her studio, and the importance of deep female friendship and collaboration. The episode closes with a guided meditation to help you connect with your sankalpa—your inner soul whisper—and remember that you already carry the wisdom you seek.Whether you’re brand new to energetic practices or deep in your healing journey, this episode is a soft place to land. What You’ll Hear in This Episode:* The 5 koshas and how they shape our understanding of the body, mind, and spirit* Why it’s important to honor both science and intuition in women’s health* The energetic body and how emotion manifests in physical sensation* A powerful reframe of labor, rest, and cyclical living as leadership tools* How to be a “life doula” in your relationships and partnerships* The upward current of liberation and downward current of manifestation in the chakra system* Why inner rhythm—not perfection—is the foundation of sustainable change* A guided Living Yoga meditation to connect to your inner knowing (sankalpa)Mentioned in the Episode:* Living Yoga – A foundational program from Soma Moon Wellness focused on cyclical living and self-leadership* Empower Your Core – A self-paced course for pelvic floor health and body awareness* Soma Moon Leadership Circle – A container for embodied leadership and intuitive strategy* Carrie by Stephen King – A literary moment that sparked reflection on generational silence around menstruation* Teachings by Anodea Judith on chakras and energy flow* The Cycle of Grace by Frank Lake* Quote by Thich Nhat Hanh: “The quality of our actions depends on the quality of our being.”Resources & Ways to Connect:* Website: somamoonwellness.com* Substack: Subscribe for updates and reflections* Instagram: @somamoonwellnessQuestions or requests? Episode 27 - Cycles, Strength & Menopause
Hi love, and welcome to another episode of Becoming Her.What if your emotions, energy levels, and strength weren’t unpredictable… but rhythmic? In this special episode, Jeanetta sits down with her mom, Doraine, for a tender and powerful intergenerational conversation about hormonal cycles, menopause, and the wisdom of listening to your body. Together, they explore how tracking your cycle—whether you’re menstruating or not—can completely transform how you move, plan, rest, and relate to yourself. You’ll hear raw stories, practical insights, and deeply personal reflections on aging, grief, strength training, and reclaiming your voice in a world that rarely teaches women how to honor their rhythms. For me, this episode hit home—and inspired the reflection below.A Love Letter to My Body (and to Every Woman Who’s Ever Wondered, “Is It Just Me?”)Learning about my cycle and how my hormones shift throughout the month is something I only discovered after meeting Jeanetta. She has a way of breaking complex concepts down in a way that’s easy to digest—and this knowledge has completely changed how I show up in the world. Now that I track my cycle, I can clearly see how my luteal phase brings a wave of self-doubt, low energy, and the urge to retreat. Before I had the awareness of what was happening in my body, I felt so much shame. I thought I was just “too emotional” or “not strong enough.” I hated that I couldn’t keep it together—but now I know: it wasn’t a flaw. It was my body asking me to slow down. This knowledge has given me something I never had before: confidence. I trust my body in a way I never did. I give myself grace. I allow myself to rest when I need it, and I no longer judge myself for needing space or stillness. It’s even shifted how I approach my workouts. I love dumbbell bench presses, but I used to feel like I was on a rollercoaster—some weeks I’d feel strong and powerful, and others I’d have to drop the weight by 10 pounds and wonder what was wrong with me. Now I get it. When I’m ovulating, I’m more energized and can lift heavier. In luteal, I move slower, lift lighter, and focus on control and form. It’s a completely different kind of strength—and it all counts.Honestly, it blows my mind that I’m only learning this at 44 years old. But now that I know, I want every woman to know. Because once you understand your cycle—once you really see yourself with compassion and clarity—life doesn’t just get easier. It gets more aligned, more embodied, and a whole lot more empowering.Much love,StephEpisode SummaryIn this deeply personal and empowering episode of Becoming Her, Jeanetta is joined by a very special guest—her mother, Doraine. Together, they open up a cross-generational conversation about the journey through menstruation, menopause, and everything in between. With warmth, honesty, and humor, they explore the unspoken challenges of womanhood, including hormonal rhythms, strength training later in life, and finding your voice after loss. From stories of first periods and pelvic floor health to osteopenia, grief, and the healing power of movement, this episode is a celebration of cyclical living, body awareness, and intergenerational wisdom. Whether you’re navigating perimenopause, postmenopause, or just starting your cycle journey, this conversation offers insight, validation, and encouragement to listen inward and move with intention. What You’ll Hear in This Episode:* Why strength training is essential in menopause—and how Doraine reversed bone loss* Charting energy levels with the moon to reclaim rhythm and plan your life* How yoga teaches proprioception (body awareness) that supports safe lifting* The importance of eccentric vs. concentric strength training across the cycle* Reflections on introversion, grief, and rediscovering your voice after loss* How yoga teacher training (even if you never teach) can be a profound tool for self-discovery and body literacy* The vision for Soma Moon’s 200-hour online training launching in JanuaryMentioned in the Episode:* Soma Moon Wellness – An online education company for cyclical living, movement, and leadership* Living Yoga – The upcoming first module of the online 200-hour teacher training* Strength Training for Women – How to match your workouts with your menstrual or moon cycle* Substack Newsletter – For updates, reflections, and resourcesResources Mentioned:* Questions or topic requests? Episode 26 - The Five Movement Skills Every Woman Needs
Hi, love—and welcome back to Becoming Her.It’s Steph here, Jeanetta’s partner behind the scenes, usually editing and cheering from the background. This week, Jeanetta offers an empowering breakdown on what it really means to build a well-rounded fitness routine. This one hit especially close to home—because I remember how overwhelming it felt when I first started strength training. In the beginning, I didn’t know what exercises to choose or how to organize my workouts. What helped build my confidence was showing up at Block Fitness—where I could learn the basics in real time, with support. That gave me the foundation to understand how my body moved in space, how to adjust form, and what “good” movement actually felt like. From there, I pursued my NASM certification and slowly began writing my own programs—using movement patterns like push, pull, hinge, squat, lunge, and carry as my guide. And now? I can pivot mid-workout. I trust my body to tell me what feels right. Some exercises that work for me don’t work for my husband—and that’s the beauty of it. It’s deeply personal. It’s empowering. What struck me most in this episode is Jeanetta’s invitation to stop chasing perfect plans and start designing movement around real life—around your needs, your energy, your goals. I realized I’ve already been hitting all five of the movement skills she describes—Cardiovascular Endurance, Balance, Mobility, Power, and Strength—just by living fully. A typical week for me looks like three strength sessions, daily dog walks, two yoga classes, and weekend hikes or swims. I never planned to “train” all five skills—it just happened by tuning into what felt good. That’s what I hope you hear in this episode:It doesn’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to follow someone else’s formula. You get to define what strength looks like for you.And once you do? That’s where the magic is.Let us know what lands. We’re always here, listening with you.Much love,StephEpisode Summary:In this episode of Becoming Her, Jeanetta closes out a powerful three-part series on building an intentional, sustainable fitness routine—one rooted in purpose, not pressure. With wisdom drawn from pain science, pelvic health, and decades of movement experience, Jeanetta shares the five key movement skills she incorporates into every week:* Cardiovascular Endurance* Balance* Mobility* Power* StrengthRather than chasing a perfect plan, she invites you to ask:What kind of life am I training for?Whether you’re hiking mountains, chasing toddlers, or rebuilding your strength post-menopause, this episode offers a flexible, honest, and empowering framework for movement at any stage of life. You’ll also hear:* The difference between mobility vs. flexibility (and why it matters)* How to match your workouts to your lifestyle, personality, and cycle* Simple ways to build variety using foundational movement patterns (push, pull, hinge, squat, lunge, carry)* How to use movement to regulate your nervous system and support mental clarity* Why consistency doesn’t require rigidity—and how to create space for both challenge and easeJeanetta’s goal? To help you move with more agency, joy, and self-awareness—whether you’re at home, in the gym, or out on the trail. What You’ll Learn in This Episode:* Why your fitness routine should reflect your values and real-life goals* How to combine movement skills and patterns to create balance and variety* Ideas for adapting workouts to your energy, hormones, and schedule* How to assess if you’re training, maintaining, or just going through the motions* Creative tips for building a week of movement that feels supportive—not overwhelmingResources Mentioned:* Episode 24 – How to Choose the Right Workout for You - HERE* The Movement Hub – Free Access through August 1st with code PODHUB* Email: [email protected]* Connect via Substack or leave a comment on the podcastReady for more support?Stay tuned for the relaunch of The Movement Hub, Soma Moon’s online library of strength, mobility, and yoga programs—designed to meet you wherever you are. Episode 25 - Coaching with Compassion
Hi, love—and welcome back to Becoming Her.It’s Steph here—Jeanetta’s partner, usually behind the scenes editing and producing these weekly episodes. But this week, I had the honor of producing a powerful conversation between Jeanetta and movement educator Natali Kummer, and I wanted to step forward to share what resonated with me most.I fell in love with movement through yoga a few decades ago—but I came to strength training much later. I only began my strength journey a year and a half ago, and now? I can’t imagine life without my three-times-a-week strength sessions. This episode is full of the soft-yet-strong truths we don’t talk about enough:* The emotional labor of being a coach* The wisdom of knowing when to hold space—and when to step back* The permission to move with your cycle, not against it* The shift from “doing it all” to doing what’s alignedNatalie speaks so beautifully about how coaching isn’t just sets and reps—it’s presence, trust, and the kind of deep listening that can only come through lived experience. As someone still learning how to honor my own rhythms, this episode gave me so much to reflect on.I didn’t start learning about my cycle and hormones—or how to actually sync my workouts with my energy—until I took Jeanetta’s Empower Your Core 101 course last August. It completely shifted how I relate to movement and helped me understand that I don’t have to show up at 100% every day.And that’s what I want to leave you with:When you give yourself permission to be 80% on some days and rest when needed, those 100% days? Your Vagina Called... She Booked Therapy on Wednesdays.
If you’re new here—welcome. I’m so glad you’ve found this space. Empower Your Core was born from years of working with women who wanted to feel strong and confident in their bodies again, but didn’t know where to start. Pelvic floor health isn’t something most of us grew up learning about, and by the time we realize we need help, the options often feel overwhelming or clinical. That’s where this program comes in.I designed Empower Your Core to be simple, approachable, and deeply supportive. It’s not about doing more or pushing harder. It’s about making a small but meaningful commitment to yourself each day—just 30 minutes to reconnect, rebuild, and remember your body’s wisdom. Each week includes a 8-12-minute educational video followed by short daily practices like breathwork, gentle movement, and reflection. Everything is under 12 minutes and easy to weave into your life, even on the busiest days. One of my favorite parts of the program is the live coaching sessions. This is where we come together in real time—no pressure, just support. We talk through what you’re experiencing, celebrate progress, and hold space for whatever’s coming up. Healing happens faster (and feels less lonely) when you're seen, heard, and supported. My hope is that this course becomes a steady anchor for you—a reminder that your body is not broken, and that real strength starts from within. Let’s ride the wave together. My Love Letter To YouEach day of this program, I’ve written you a personal, intentional love letter—a reminder that you are not alone on this path. Within these notes, I share my own stories, struggles, and quiet victories, along with my deepest hopes for every woman who’s ready to live life on her own terms. This space is as much about healing as it is about remembering who you are and reclaiming what’s always been yours.Hi Love, The number of times I’ve white-knuckled my way through life is almost laughable. The other day, my husband gave me what might be the best compliment I’ve ever received—though it took me a minute to recognize it.We were riding down a rocky, technical trail—the kind that makes me feel like the biggest badass. After watching me tackle a particularly tricky section, he said:"I envy your courage. I look at the things you’re doing at your current skill level and think, there’s no way I’d do that."At first, I didn’t know how to take it. But then, it clicked.I don’t know any other way.I have been white-knuckling my way through most of my life—gripping onto control like my survival depended on it. For a long time, I thought I was an Enneagram 8 because of my intense need to manage my anger and the rage I felt when control was taken from me.But I see it now. Control for the sake of control was never the point. It was what the loss of control represented—the fear, the pain, the deeper wounds I wasn’t yet ready to face. For me, that wound was losing my freedom.I wanted so desperately to live a life without windows—to be boundless, untamed, fully in charge of my own existence. But in my fear of losing that, I started gripping onto everything tighter. I became my own cage.It wasn’t until I began physically letting go—releasing the fear, the pain, the anger stored in my body—that I started to realize something. My emotional pain was never separate. It was always waiting, just beneath the surface, asking to be seen, to be healed. And maybe that’s the real lesson.Sometimes, we think bravery looks like holding on tighter—but real courage? It’s knowing when to let go.So if you’re here, if you’re learning to release, if you’re feeling everything you once tried to control—know this:You are brave. I am proud of you. You are free to feel.Be Loved, Be Blessed, Be WellJeanetta8 Minutes of Pelvic Floor EducationMy goal isn’t to overwhelm you with complex science or give you a master’s degree in pelvic floor health — it’s to help you understand and connect with the body you already have. I’m not here to impress you with big words or complicated lessons. These short 8-minute videos are designed to actually serve you, not confuse you. You’ll find a mix of simple anatomy insights, breath work, meditation, and easy movements you can weave into your daily life. Thanks for reading Empower Your Core! This post is public so feel free to share it with a woman you know who needs pelvic floor support. In this Lesson:We focus on deepening your awareness of your pelvic floor through play, movement, and sensory exploration.Key Concepts* Sensory Input & Activation:Sensory feedback helps the brain coordinate when to contract and relax the pelvic floor muscles. Activation is like a light switch—turning muscles "on" and "off" as needed.* Beyond Kegels – Pelvic Floor Toning:Instead of just contracting (Kegels), a strong and functional pelvic floor must also lengthen and fully relax. Think of it as balanced muscle control, not just constant tension.* Holding Tension Awareness:Many people unknowingly hold tension in their pelvic floor, similar to clenching a fist all day. Chronic contraction leads to weakness and fatigue, limiting movement when it's needed.Empower Your Core is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Practical Exercise: Pelvic Floor Activation with a Block* Lie on your back with feet on a wall in a 90-90 position (knees stacked over hips).* Place a yoga block between your inner thighs closer to the hips than knees to engage the adductors, which support the pelvic floor.* Breathing Technique* Inhale: Expand and relax the pelvic floor (imagine sit bones widening like a jellyfish).* Exhale: Lightly squeeze the block and lift the pelvic floor (pulling upward toward the belly button).* Keep pelvis neutral—no tilting.Key Takeaways* Play with movement and explore different positions (feet on the wall, knees bent, feet flat on the floor).* Pelvic floor work can be integrated throughout daily life—even during activities like driving, washing dishes, or sex.* The goal is full control—being able to turn the pelvic floor muscles on and off with ease.Keep experimenting with your movement and breath—have fun with it! I have thoroughly pissed myself off.
For the past 2 weeks, I’ve secretly been off social media. I say secretly because I wanted to avoid having a Pitch Perfect Becca moment and drag my chair letting everyone know “I am leaving, no really I’m leaving, do you see me going?” The amount of mental bandwidth I’ve spent making sure not to miss a “story-worthy” opportunity, not to mention, it’s the greatest thief of joy through self-comparison. I was living my daily life like it had a comment section waiting for someone to “like” my endless efforts required to market my business, prove that I have value based on an ambiguous number, and fearing every potential move I make as an opportunity for public rejection. When I gave myself permission to not give any more f***s about what people thought, knew, or commented on my life, I feel like I actually started to pay more attention to the comments I make in my own head about my life. Comments that directly pointed to my own insecurities and limiting beliefs, that I conveniently blamed on the algorithm gods punishing me for not creating enough content. It ALWAYS comes back to being ENOUGH. I haven’t shared this story with very many people because I’ve been so afraid of the comment section, but this story is exactly what I’m talking about. In June of 2020 when a LOT of people were putting black boxes on their instagram to support the BLM movement following George Floyd’s death, I did not. I watched, scared, from our very hot fifth-wheel trailer, tucked away next to a cornfield in the middle BFE Arizona desert. We were taking refuge there—trying to escape the chaos and hold onto the remnants of stability we could create while the world felt like it was falling apart.I picked up my phone expecting a “Happy Birthday” text from a colleague I’d been planning a women’s retreat with — once “COVID passed.” But instead, it felt like the breath got knocked out of me, like birthday candles blown out too soon. She wasn’t texting to celebrate. She wanted to know why I hadn’t posted a black square and expressed concern about my lack of “engagement” on such a deeply social issue. Then proceeded to say some not nice things, when I told her I wasn’t going to pick sides on an issue that was way more comprehensive than posting a virtue signaling black box. Hold your comments for a second and let’s talk about what really happened, because I can almost guarantee that this has happened to you. With a single post (or lack there of), someone made an entire assumption about my life, beliefs, politics, and, ultimately, my worth and value. Here’s the part that feels shitty, she gets to. We all do.We get to decide who we follow, who we vote for, who we love, who we want in our inner circle. She made assumptions and accusations without being willing to sit in her discomfort and have a real conversation. She asked the questions she thought would bring her peace in a very confusing time by trying to see who was on the same team as her. I didn’t value the relationship enough to express my own true fears and stories around this topic. She never asked me about what it’s like to grow up in South Georgia and be the only white kid in the all black church my dad was invited to be a guest preacher, where the services lasted three hours and the music was the most incredible thing I’ve ever heard. She never asked me about my first work mentor, a 300 pound, 6’4” former linebacker from University of Southern Mississippi, who taught me how to find the best fried catfish Hattiesburg and would come help me today if I called him. She never asked what it was like to work as the public relations officer for the first black man to run for governor of the state of Mississippi. What would your life look if your comment section were closed?I’m telling you this now, because today — after two weeks off social media — I got back on. Not to scroll. Not to post for the algorithm. But because I desperately want to tell women about my Empower Your Core course. So I threw a Hail Mary. I sent about 20 messages to women I’ve coached or had some kind of connection with in the past. And when I finished… I felt like s**t.All those old feelings — of being misunderstood, of being too much or not enough — came rushing back like a tidal wave. The whirlwind of emotion hit harder than I expected.I hate sending messages like that.It feels gross. Pushy. Desperate.Lately, it’s like standing in a crowded room where everyone’s screaming for attention — and silently judging the person next to them for how they’re screaming.IT’S THE WORST.If you got one of my messages, please know:The offer is real. It’s genuine. And I specifically chose you.How many times have you stopped yourself from sharing a story with a friend, expressing a desire to take a bold step into something new, or reaching out to talk through a complex emotion or belief…Because you’re too afraid of the comment section?Me? EVERY DAMN DAY.Creating quieter rooms….I desperately want to get out of the influencer race — the one that makes me feel like my voice is being suffocated and my spirit smothered.I want to invite you into a few different rooms.Quieter spaces.Places where you can actually hear yourself think.Where you can share your story in a way that heals your soul —So you can start living without fear of the comment section. Here are four rooms you’re invited to walk into — and take up space. No matter where you live.No matter your story. You are welcome here.ROOM 1: EMPOWER YOUR CORE Live Group Coaching Calls on Wednesdays at 1:30 PTEvery Wednesday, I’ll be hosting a pelvic floor live group coaching session—completely free—to anyone who’s subscribed to my Substack or has purchased the self-paced Empower Your Core: Floor 101 course. The Zoom link is already inside the course portal, so if you’ve signed up, you’re all set.If you haven’t grabbed the course yet, here’s a 20% off promo code just for you: YOUMATTER20This group coaching series is designed to help you connect to your core in a deeper, more empowering way and is especially for women who want to feel strong, supported, and confident in their bodies—without shame or confusion. Good Enough Is Brave Enough: A Story of Starting Before I'm Ready.
If you’ve ever found yourself questioning your voice, doubting your presence, or holding back from stepping into your power, this episode of Becoming Her is one you’ll want to listen to, save, and share. In this deeply personal episode, I take you through the raw emotions of launching my first podcast—the self-doubt, the resistance, the absolute fear of putting something imperfect into the world. But here’s the truth: perfection isn’t the goal, showing up is.When we allow our stories to be told, we allow ourselves to heal. We step into our own hero’s journey, much like the great storytellers—George Lucas, J.R.R. Tolkien, even ancient teachers like Buddha and Jesus—who used narratives to impart wisdom and guide transformation. In this episode, I explore:* The power of storytelling in shaping our beliefs and identity* The unconscious mind and how it stores our deepest fears and learned behaviors* The importance of mentors and community in our journeys of growth* Why yoga, beyond the physical, is a practice of connection—to self, to others, and to something greater* How to recognize the stories we tell ourselves and rewrite them for empowermentI also share a vulnerable moment from my own life—how fear almost stopped me from creating this podcast, and how leaning into courage (and having a strong support system) helped me push through. If you’ve ever felt paralyzed by self-doubt or unsure of where your story is leading, this episode will remind you: You are not a mistake. You are becoming. So, pour yourself a cup of coffee, take a deep breath, and join me as we uncover the stories that shape us—and how we can reclaim them.🎧 Listen now and let’s start telling better stories—our own.—Jeanetta Bodie This is a public episode. Embracing Feminine & Masculine Energy - Episode 008
In this episode of Becoming Her, Jeanetta Bodie explores the balance between feminine and masculine energy—how it manifests in our lives, relationships, and work. She shares her personal journey of growing up in a deeply religious Southern culture, her admiration for strong female characters in movies, and how she has learned to embrace her natural feminine energy while integrating masculine traits in a way that feels authentic.Jeanetta also discusses hormone cycles and energy levels, highlighting the importance of listening to your body’s rhythms instead of forcing productivity. She explains how society often values grind culture and masculine traits like structure, logic, and action, while overlooking the power of intuition, creativity, and flow. By blending both energies, we can find a more sustainable and fulfilling way to live and work.Topics Covered in This Episode Shifting away from social media noise and moving to Substack for deeper conversationsHow feminine and masculine energy influence our daily lives, business, and relationshipsRecognizing burnout vs. lack of motivation—understanding what your body truly needsWhy Sarah Blakely (founder of Spanx) inspired Jeanetta to embrace her feminine energy in businessThe importance of rest and receiving rather than constantly doingA teaser for next week’s discussion on hormone fluctuations and energy cyclesJournal Prompts & Reflection QuestionsDo you feel more drawn to masculine or feminine energy?Where do you feel resonance vs. dissonance in your energy? If you're always giving, how can you allow yourself to receive this week?If you're struggling with motivation, is it burnout or something deeper?Exciting Updates and AnnoucementsEmpower Your Core – Join my self-paced, 15-min daily program to strengthen your body & mind.
