103. A Scripture Reflection for Hard News | Philippians 4:4-8
Hey friends. This episode is not a regularly scheduled one, but me sharing some recent difficult news about my pregnancy and inviting you into a process of meditating on Scripture with me when things seem to not go as planned. Scripture is more than just words. Hebrews 4:12 tells us it's living and active. So when we choose to come to it, through times of joy and sorrow, it will change us. It will strengthen, comfort, encourage and renew us, because the Holy Spirit is always behind it. I would love for you to be a part of this journey and to also reflect on these verses with me throughout the month of May, even with your own hard news, suffering or trial. 102. What Happens To PMDD During Pregnancy or Postpartum?
Have you ever wondered what happens to your PMDD if/ when you get pregnant, or after you have baby? Does it just disappear and you're in the clear for the next 9 months or longer, since it's cycle related? In this episode, I talk about the parallels of PMDD with these other hormonally-sensitive seasons, and how symptoms may show up. It not only gives you some understanding as to what's going on in your body in these seasons, but also some practical ways to prepare so you're not caught off guard. I hope this episode is helpful! 101. 4 Places To Begin If You Wonder Or Know It's PMDD
This episode is for you if A) you're trying to figure out if you have premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or B) you know you have it, but you are feeling overwhelmed or lost on how to manage it. I cover 4 specific topics that will help you navigate PMDD that much easier. They're almost like that initial roadmap that so many of us wish we had or are longing for in this battle with PMDD. I understand there are a million other things that can be done to help manage PMDD, but if you're already on the overwhelm bus, then having a 60 point to-do list won't help minimize that list. So let's start here, and go from there, okay? Let's start with grace and curiosity towards ourselves, and work on putting the self-blame and self-criticism on the shelf. ~ Lauren Next Steps: 50% off The Luteal Prep Guide for the month of April for PMDD Awareness Month. 100. 7 Things PMDD Has "Stolen" From Me
When you think of your struggle with premenstrual dysphoric disorder, do you feel there are certain things PMDD has "stolen" from you? Broken relationships? Distorted thoughts? Feelings of inadequacy? In this episode, I go through 7 of those things I've identified in my own life. It's a reflection that brings with it a lot of grief and lament, and reminds me of the brokenness still in this world, in my body and in my relationships. But as it's Easter this month, we also know that there is a hope beyond the symptoms and broken relationships or dreams. I talk about all of this in this episode. I encourage you to also reflect on what PMDD has "stolen" from you, but know that Christ is still Lord and in control. ~ Lauren Next Steps: 50% off The Luteal Prep Guide for the month of April for PMDD Awareness Month. 99. REPLAY: Cycle Nutrition 101: Foods Your Body Needs in Every Phase with Danika Vanderpyl
This week we're doing a replay episode from way back in September of 2024! Maybe you've heard about how your body needs different foods in each phase of your cycle, and this episode takes a deep dive into this with my friend Danika Vanderpyl. As women, we're not linear, robotic creatures that require one thing to fuel us all month long. Throughout each of the phases, our bodies need different things- different movement, self/ soul-care, socializing, nutrition. And this is exactly what Danika and I chat about in this episode. The best part of it? In our conversation, she breaks it all down into more simple and bite-size strategies so you're not feeling extra overwhelmed. Because, really friend, you don't need more overwhelm than what you're already experiencing! I'd highly encourage you to grab a notebook and pen and take notes! Danika Vanderpyl is Certified in Holistic Nutrition with a passion for helping women making eating simple, energizing, and healthy. After facing her own digestive challenges, Danika transformed her favorite recipes into nutrient dense, low-sugar alternatives to heal her body. Now a food blogger she share these wholesome recipes at besidethemoutain.com. As a mom of two boys, Danika is passionate about helping women and mothers thrive in holistic living—from eating to heal the body to hiking to recharge and thrive. 98. Nutrition For PMDD: Where To Begin
For the month of March, nutrition is what we’re talking about! If you’ve ever wondered where to start with food and what you’re putting into your body when it comes to helping manage your PMDD symptoms, I’m sharing it all here on this episode! What I’m talking about are the core foundations for helping regulate blood sugar and reduce inflammation. These are a great (and essential!) place to start. This is really getting to the heart of what we're putting into our bodies every day, every meal. And this matters. Because before the supplements, before the deep hormone protocols, before trying one more “quick fix,” your body needs stability. It needs steady fuel. It needs nourishment that supports your nervous system, your hormones, and your brain. When blood sugar is constantly spiking and crashing, it can magnify anxiety, irritability, rage, and hopelessness. When inflammation is high, symptoms often feel louder and heavier. So in this episode, we’re going back to basics. Simple shifts. Practical changes. The kind that create a foundation you can actually build on. If you’ve been wondering where the heck to begin, listen in. 96. Aren't Women With PMDD Just Under Demonic Influence?
Have you ever questioned whether your PMDD symptoms are spiritual attacks, or something darker, rather than something happening in your body? Have you thought: if I just believed harder, prayed more and was a better Christian, I wouldn't be dealing with all of this? If these thoughts and more have come up, you're not alone. Women with PMDD who are also Christians deal with these doubts and questions every cycle, making it harder and harder to understand whether this is purely physical or spiritual. What if it was both? In today's episode, I tackle this hard topic of whether PMDD is just women coming under demonic influence, or something else. As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic! 94. My Anger as a Christian Mom: The Story I Didn’t Want to Tell
"Working on my anger/ rage/ extreme irritability". Maybe not the most popular new year's resolution, but not any less important. This is such a loaded topic, and as the title of this episode explains, a story I never thought I would share or wanted to share. It's that place of pain in my heart that feels too vulnerable, too exposed, and yet, here it is. In this episode, I'm sharing my own story with anger relating to premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and how it wasn't so apparent until after I had my daughter. Then the sin was more exposed than ever. But with exposure comes freedom. If you're caught right in the middle of dealing with anger, rage or intense irritability, just no you're not alone and there is hope. When we can start being honest with ourselves, that's when the healing can begin. Hope you are blessed by this episode. 93. What Foundation Will Hold During PMDD?
For years, my theological foundation was pretty sandy, crumbly and wasn't holding when the PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) storm was hitting. The despair, the doubts, the fears and anxieties would pile up and I would just keep spiraling down. Then I started working on the foundation that I was building my values, beliefs and convictions on, the theology that would sustain me even through the monthly hormonal sensitivity storms: aka PMDD. In this episode, we're asking the question: what is your foundation? Are you building your life on strong and sound theological doctrine, or doubts, deconstruction and skepticism of God's character? Answering this question will make a huge difference in how the luteal phase of your cycle goes each month. Let's dive in! 91. Navigating PMDD Through A Biblical Lens
How do you view your struggle with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)? Do you see it through the lens of Scripture — or as something happening to you without purpose or hope? Are you interpreting your symptoms through God’s truth — or through fear, frustration, and discouragement? Do you believe God can bring clarity, healing, and renewal here — or have you quietly stopped expecting anything to change? Some hard questions to grapple with, but so important for your journey through PMDD. In this episode, we’re looking at PMDD through a truly biblical lens. We talk about what it actually looks like to bring your symptoms, your emotions, and your monthly patterns to the Lord… and how to stop seeing PMDD as something that just “happens to you” and start seeing it through truth, clarity, and Scripture. This is a grounding, honest, Christ-centered reframing of what you walk through every month — and I think it’s going to breathe some hope into places that have felt heavy for a long time. 90. PMDD Root Causes Series Part 5: HPA-Axis Dysregulation
If stress makes your PMDD feel ten times louder, this episode will make everything click. We’re talking about the HPA axis — not in a science-heavy way, but in a real-life, “this is why I feel the way I do” way. In this conversation, I’m naming the things so many of us walk through: • feeling overstimulated just trying to get through the day • snapping or shutting down because your body is already at capacity • exhaustion that feels spiritual and physical • the guilt that comes with being overwhelmed when you “should be stronger” • wondering why your symptoms flare when life gets stressful And we’ll walk through: • why stress + HPA-Axis dysregulation doesn’t cause PMDD, but absolutely makes it louder (a bit different than the other root causes of premenstrual dysphoric disorder) • how to acknowledge the stress your body is actually carrying • simple ways to soften your system again • how to invite God into your stress instead of coping alone • gentle rhythms that support you all month long This is your permission to stop pretending you’re fine and start supporting your body with grace, truth, and the help God offers. 89. PMDD Root Causes Part 4: Neuroinflammation
Big name, simple meaning: neuroinflammation means inflammation of the brain. It might sound like another daunting characteristic of PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder)... But truly, when we understand what’s at the root of the problem, that’s where healing begins. If you can relate to any of these symptoms in the week or two before your period— brain fog irritability sensory overwhelm exhaustion or that “buzzing,” inflamed feeling in your brain— …you’re in the right place. In this episode, we’ll break down what neuroinflammation really is, how it connects to PMDD, and what you can do—physically and spiritually—to begin calming your brain and body again. 88. PMDD Root Causes Part 3: Genetic Disposition
Hey friends, welcome back to PMDD Redeemed! This week, we're chatting about how PMDD isn't "just hormones", but it results from the very fabric and blueprint of who you are: your DNA and genes. I loved learning more about this root cause of PMDD, because it just seemed to "seal the deal" even more, of knowing it's not just about trying harder, being less this or more that. The layers attached to PMDD are so important to understand, and not only bring awareness, but also validity and substantiation. It's not just "all in your head"; there's research pointing to deep, cellular dysregulation occurring. So have a listen and enjoy! Lauren . 87. PMDD Root Causes Part 2: Serotonin Dysregulation
We're continuing on with our PMDD Root Causes series, and today we're chatting about serotonin dysregulation. This episode has so much overlap to last week's episode, where we talked about how the GABA-A receptors misfire during the luteal phase. The main issue again here is sensitivity: the receptors not responding well to a normal hormone, or in this case, neurotransmitter. I talk about the physiology behind it, but take a deep dive into: 1) nervous system regulation, specifically helping you assess why you're doing what you're doing, and 2) gut health & nutrition, about how this is the foundation for emotional regulation and feeling in control of your thoughts and emotions every cycle. Hope you enjoy the episode! Lauren ---------------------------------------- Next Steps: Get the GABA Healing Guide: A 7-step framework for helping to heal the GABA-A receptor. So you feel like a different person every month.. like your thoughts, emotions, rational thinking - everything - gets hijacked. But what's causing it? Why it is happening? In this first episode of the series "PMDD Root Causes", we're chatting about what it actually means to have a hormone sensitivity in your brain, and how that causes PMDD symptoms to worsen. We also chat about what we can start doing about it, how we can help your GABA-A receptors to start healing. Yes, heal! God made your body and brain in such a way that it can heal and change. 84. A Little Announcement About the Show
Hey friend! I have a very short and sweet announcement to share about the show. Yes, I am taking a bit of a break from the podcast to work on my own self, to do more in-person reflexology, take care of my daughter and return back to my home care nursing job super super part-time. Trying not to see this as weakness or me running away, but more as a time to strengthen my relationship with my body, with God, with my family, and to discern what this next season looks like for my business. Thank you for all your support and for gathering here every week! It means so much to me. I'd highly encourage you to subscribe to the show, so that if/ when (hoping when!) it's back on, you'll know right away! Blessings, friend! Lauren

83. Why You Keep Doing the Habits That Make Your PMS or PMDD Worse
We've all been in the situation. We're doing the very things we know do not help us feel better. In fact, they bring on the anxiety again. They make us have that impending doom feeling. We get all the very familiar symptoms back. And we ask ourselves, why? Why am I keeping on doing these habits?! It just doesn't make any sense! In this episode, I talk about the very reason why it does make sense, of why we keep returning to the habits that make us feel like garbage! I'd encourage you to take some time once you've gone through the episode to really reflect on this and ask God to give you clarity on how to work through it. The passages I talk about in this episode are: Colossians 3:3 Romans 7:21-25 Episode #81: 3 Places Where Your Identity Does Not Come From May you be encouraged! 81. 3 Places Where Your Identity Does NOT Come From
Happy Monday, friend! Does it feel hard to not base your identity, worth and value on what you're contributing to the world? Do you ever say to God "if you only gave me this, or did that, then my life would be like this"? Does your identity get tossed around every menstrual cycle when you're in the premenstrual phase and wondering how you're going to get through this one? In this episode, I'm sharing three places where our identities do NOT come from. These are some pretty big areas of our lives as women, Christians, moms, women who want to be married or moms. But we need to constantly be reminded every day that our identity does not belong here. Have a listen to the episode! 78. ADHD, Motherhood and Menstrual Health: A Conversation With Annie de Villiers
Happy Monday, friend! This week, I have a special guest chatting with me about ADHD, motherhood and menstrual health issues. Yes, all those things packed into this great, big episode! I know you'll be encouraged by this conversation, because I was. I felt so very validated and affirmed in my own wellness journey, and I pray the same for you! Happy listening! Lauren Annie: "Hello, my name is Annie de Villiers, and I am 42-years young and was diagnosed with ADHD in 2018, when I was 35. I am a qualified foundation phase teacher but currently only homeschool my own two children. This year, 2025, I am blessed to be married for 17 years. We live in Pretoria, South Africa and I definitely am one of those people who value the sun in my life. Over the years I have had to learn to not just cope with my ADHD, but live a life where I bloom. Our ADHD brains are so powerful and unique but untrained and neglected. We often struggle to a point it starts to drain us. Coping with a monthly menstrual cycle with all the changes and challenges it brings takes intentionality. Developing some healthy habits in my every day life has helped to lift the heaviness of the effects of my menstrual cycle." Have questions or want to carry on with this conversation? 67. Living a Life of Love With Jesus' Help | Advent Series Part 4
We all know the classic passage about love in 1 Corinthians. But when you read it, does it instill in you? Guilt, freedom, condemnation? When we're dealing with PMS or PMDD symptoms, and we clearly see we aren't kind or patient, and we're actually just downright rude and self-seeking, how do we allow the gospel to move in us that turns us away from self-serving to self-sacrifice? This is the last of the Advent series, as Christmas is just a few days away. This episode brings both love and Christ together, because we can't love, we can't be gracious or kind until we allow the true and radical love of God to transform us. 66. Joy Even When I Have Mood Swings?! Advent Series Part 3
Joy: it goes beyond just being happy and smiling all the time. Joy in Jesus is so much different than just being happy all the time, and it's even more pertinent when we're suffering, struggling or desiring something that just hasn't happened yet. However, how do we move beyond mood swings and how we're feeling in our premenstrual phase and truly root our strength in the joy of what Jesus has done for us and the promises God speaks over us? I know for my own self, this is an area God is continually refining me in. It requires humility and trusting in God's goodness, and not just in how I feel. So come have a listen to this third week of advent, and be invited to pursue a joy that's deep deep down, beyond fickle emotions and thoughts, but rather deeply grounded in the truth of who God is. 64. How Do We Find Hope When Despair Is Loud? Advent Series Part 1
Are despair and hopelessness speaking a bit too loud these days? Are you finding it difficult to trust in Jesus and his promises amidst premenstrual anxiety and fear? Well, Christmas is coming, and that means Advent is here! If you don't know much about Advent, it simply means 'coming': Jesus is coming. He's still safely tucked in Mary's belly. She's probably getting more and more uncomfortable, and both nervously and excitedly wanting to meet her baby. You're invited to practice hope this week, to remember where your TRUE hope lies. The world will offer us counterfeit hope, which is like putting a bandaid on a gushing wound. I invite you to step away from the loud, despairing voices and come away with Jesus for a moment, who wants to remind you of the living hope we have in him! If you haven't already, come join the Practicing Advent Series! Every Monday, you'll receive a new email specific to that week's advent topic. Come join and be even more reminded of what truths God wants you to know and be anchored in this Christmas season. Each week will vary, but it could be Scripture, prayer, music, holistic wellness specific to that week. Click here to join! 61. Periods, Depression & Holistic Wellness: Listen to Aileen Orr's Story
Hey friend! It's Monday again, and I'm so excited to share this episode with you of my conversation with Aileen Orr! Aileen and I have been friends for years, and we love chatting about all things holistic and natural wellness, women's health, hormones- all the good stuff! So, we decided to make an official conversation of it and do an episode all about Aileen's experience with getting her period, working through depression, how that affected her premenstrual phase, what she did to help it and where she's at today! So, grab a coffee, tea- whatever is getting you warm and cozy these days- and have a listen! Lauren Aileen grew up on a farm near Brooks, Alberta. She spent the beginning of her adult life studying at the University of Lethbridge, where she got her degrees in English and Education. She's been fortunate enough to do a bit of traveling and living in other places, and has spent the last few years teaching mainly in junior high and upper elementary grades. Her favourite job she's ever had is a tie between working at various summer camps and being a story teller for the library one semester. Her dream job has always been to farm, and that's still the long term goal. She's married to Eric, and she is currently enjoying her first few weeks of Maternity leave before she gets promoted to being Little Sprout's mom! 60. Take a Moment Monday: Are You Feeling Faithless Today?
Struggling with despair? Feeling frantic or like you're on the verge of breaking down? Questioning if you are loved or if God is near? In this week's episode, we're having a quick chat about 2 Timothy 2:13: "If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself". This verse has been extremely comforting to me this week as I have struggled with a lot of despairing internal dialogue and difficult emotions. It gives me so much comfort to know that even when I don't have the faith, Jesus still holds me so close. I hope this episode gives you encouragement today too. Much love, friend. 59. Stop the Stigma of Menstrual & Women's Health with these 3 Strategies
In today's episode, we're talking about the stigma and taboo-ness around women's health and the menstrual cycle. I think I can confidently say we've all experienced it and each of us has varying degrees of baggage, shame or discomfort around the topic. I'm talking about how we can start gaining more awareness of our bodies and creating space for conversation, however you want that to look for yourself. It doesn't have to be covering ourselves with our menstrual blood and saying I AM WOMAN!, or hiding away in our rooms, pretending nothing is wrong, that you're not feeling things and all that! Let's find a happy balance that you feel confident and happy in! Let's jump into it! 58. 3 Core Pillars For Helping Solve Menstrual Health-Related Issues
The reality is, our bodies crave simplicity and getting back to the basics. We often think that balancing hormones, getting emotionally regulated, getting our energy back and not being overwhelmed involve a whole slew of things. Yet, it's really the exact opposite. The more we try to "do" and "force", the more stressed out we're going to be, and we all know how that leads to more negative health issues. In this episode, I'm chatting about the 3 core pillars for helping solve menstrual-health related issues (from PMS to PCOS) that bring you back to the basics. While each of these specific health issues, like endometriosis & PCOS, have their own intricacies and different approaches, these 3 pillars are a great place to start. While these 3 points are very overarching, if you are interested in getting down to the specifics and figuring out how they can apply in your life and your specific situation, I'd love to work with you.
