Ep 183: Insights from the OMA Conference 2026
Have I got a story for you—my experience at the Obesity Medicine conference in San Diego this year. I'll get to the science-y good stuff below, but first: Imagine a room full of doctors ready to dive into the science of obesity, then suddenly, boom! A sonic boom interrupts the lecture and the entire room sprints outside in search of Artemis. It returned home! And we were in San Diego--ground (or should I say, ocean) zero. Spoiler alert: nobody saw Artemis, but we all saw some major truths about obesity and weight loss. Here’s what really stuck with me: They Walk the Talk. Not only was the food gorgeously prepared and labeled (hello, buffet where “what’s in this?” isn’t a mystery!), but the whole event was designed to make healthful choices a breeze. Two-minute waits, colorful veggies, and protein-forward snacks made this cooking-challenged gal swoon—and I didn’t have to lift a spatula. The Medication Buzz is Real. Most of the sessions focused on weight loss medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide, which work wonders for many, but they’re no magic bullet. Not everyone responds, there are GI side effects, and—super important for us—they must be stopped at least two months before trying to get pregnant or going through a transfer. The “long-term unknowns” still have me in cautious doctor-mode, especially with all the new pills and injections being developed. Skills Last—Drugs Don’t. Here’s my favorite part: the studies are clear that weekly support and behavioral work (think: cognitive behavioral theory work and learning to listen to your hunger) are the things that actually make weight loss and maintenance stick—regardless of whether you use meds. We can change our brains and habits, and that’s beautiful, lasting, and side-effect free. So often, we want an easy fix—a medicine or a magic food. But lasting results mean learning to notice our thoughts and tune into our bodies--it's the closest thing we’ll ever get to our own owner’s manual. Ep 182: Gluten Free for Fertility?
Do You Need to Go Gluten-Free for Fertility? In this episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, we’re rolling up our sleeves to talk gluten and fertility—one of those topics that sparks a thousand Google rabbit holes and a million questions. Should you cut out gluten if you’re struggling to conceive? Is it really the miracle fix people claim? Let's walk through this together. What You’ll Learn Celiac Disease Isn’t Always Obvious I share my own long (and bumpy) road to a celiac diagnosis—so if doctors have ever shrugged at your symptoms, I understand that frustration. Celiac can hide in plain sight and can takes years to show up clearly, so we all have to be detectives. Gluten, Inflammation, and Unexplained Infertility Chronic inflammation from untreated celiac can impact fertility—sometimes for years before we even notice symptoms. There is an increased prevalence of people with undiagnosed celiac who experience unexplained infertility. It’s a sneaky culprit, and inflammation is often the missing link. Who Should Try Going Gluten-Free? This is so important: if you have symptoms (GI upset, rashes, brain fog, fatigue) or a strong family history, a gluten-free trial may be worth it (talk to your doctor first!). But if you don’t—please don’t just ditch gluten hoping for quick weight loss or fertility magic. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. How to Test Gluten’s Role in Your Life Work with your doc (very important!). Get blood work before going GF if you can, keep a symptoms log, and check out celiac.org to spot those hidden gluten traps (yes, soy sauce, I’m looking at you). My Favorite Truths from This Episode We do NOT ban food groups here unless there’s a good reason. Removing gluten isn’t a weight-loss shortcut—it’s only for those with symptoms or diagnosis. A gluten-free life is easier than ever. Keeping a log will help you see real change—otherwise, your brain will totally forget you ever had four headaches a week. If a gluten-free trial helps, stick with it through your fertility journey and beyond. Ep 181: We Don't Negotiate with Terrorists
Ever have a random, bossy voice in your head demand cake in the middle of an ordinary morning? We know the drill—there we are, just doing our thing, when suddenly a sugar craving hijacks our perfectly peaceful brain. It feels intense, like a deep need, but is it really? On today's episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, we get into it, because wow, does our brain love to stir the pot. Those “must-eat-it-NOW!” cravings are usually brain tricks, not true body needs. Our fabulous minds, especially the primitive part, love to throw impulse thoughts at us—often because we’ve gone too long without eating, or we’re tired, overwhelmed, or feeling big emotions. (That cake plea? Usually hunger or emotional turbulence in disguise.) We don’t need to negotiate with our toddler-brain. When we try to reason with these urges, we often end up convinced that cake is destiny. Instead, using our wise, logical brain (hello, prefrontal cortex!) to plan what and when we eat takes the wind out of the tricky brains' sails. Planning our favorites ahead of time lets us enjoy food—without feeling out of control. Awareness is magic. The moment we start noticing those impulses for what they are—just messages that something needs attention—we create space to respond differently. We learn, adjust, and slowly, those knee-jerk actions lose power. Progress comes from noticing, not from shame. Isn’t it empowering to realize that “cavewoman cake cravings” aren’t our fault and don’t mean we’ve failed? Let’s practice curiosity instead of judgment, and remember: our brains are clever, but so are we. Every bit of awareness is a win. Ready to let your logical brain take the wheel (and have your cake with zero drama)? Give this episode a listen. Ep 180: Weight Loss is Vulnerable to This In Times of Change
So here's the scene: Things are clicking. You’re nailing the Hunger Scale. Food Dates are dialed in. The scale is doing its happy dance and eating out with friends feels… normal. Not “I’m-on-a-diet” normal—actually normal. You start feeling so good, you even (wait for it) get back to the gym because, why not? But then—whoosh—out of nowhere, up pops that sneaky old voice: If I want to keep losing, maybe I should skip breakfast? I might lose more if I just… start counting calories? Should I switch to plain chicken breast for lunch? That, my friends, is all-or-nothing thinking: also known as "diet mentality." It's the Voldemort of sustainable weight loss. And it’s sneaky. You might not even realize it’s moved back in—until suddenly, brunch feels guilty, dessert is “bad,” and lunch is… sad. We break down the how, why and what to do about it in this week's episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast In This Episode How Diet Mentality Creeps Back In Stephanie Fein MD walks us through those moments when everything is flowing—weight loss feels smooth, you’re planning your meals with ease, maybe you’ve even picked up a favorite exercise again (01:14). Then…suddenly you notice: The urge to restrict more or skip meals Foods turn into “good” vs. “bad” You’re negotiating with yourself (“If I work out, I can have dessert”) Sound familiar? This is not a moral failing. This is human—it just means our brains are returning to old patterns. And it's more likely to happen when there's a change of some sort: good (wanting and able to move our body) or stressful (IVF cycle, relationship issues, a move). Classic Signs You’ve Slipped We call out the cues: Hunger ignored for the sake of “rules” Counting calories suddenly seems urgent Dessert is off-limits—even though you want it You’re forcing down foods you don’t love just because they’re “diet-y” Anything that feels like restriction or deprivation is a huge red flag. What To Do (Hint: Be Kind!) Here’s the magic: When you catch yourself, turn up the self-compassion. Stephanie Fein MD reminds us to be gentle, get curious, and return to the trusty Hunger Scale and Food Dates (15:33). Each time we do this, we clear a little more of that old diet mentality out—and build real, lasting food freedom. Ep 179: Turning Lemons Into Lemonade: Past Diet Gold
Anyone else shudder when they think about past diets? Oh, the drama! The big promises, the restrictive rules, the “this time for sure” conviction—only to be greeted by that familiar cycle of hope, fleeting wins, and quick rebounds. But what if every so-called “failed” diet was actually just an experiment, leaving us clues for our future success? Lemonade from lemons 🍋 Here’s what to squeeze out of those past attempts: 👀 Curiosity over judgment: When we look at past diets with gentle curiosity (not guilt or regret), we start to find golden nuggets of information. Maybe we discovered we actually like vegetables, or we found a water bottle we love that helps us drink more throughout the day 03:35. 💕 Love, not harshness, is what lasts: If willpower and self-criticism actually worked long-term, we’d all be thin as reeds. Instead, when our motivation is rooted in kindness and compassion, lasting habits start to stick. Permanent change is, as Louise Hay said, “loved into being” 09:28. 🪄 The magic of evaluation: Test, learn, and adjust. Instead of labeling attempts as failures, let’s ask: What worked? What didn’t? And, most importantly, what will we do differently next time? That’s where transformation lives 04:12. We are not failures—we are scientists, persistent and clever, gathering data on what does and doesn’t work for our very individual journey. Every try gets us closer, especially when we treat ourselves with kind, loving attention. Listen in now to the latest episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast. Ep 177: Pregnancy Protocol
Who hasn’t heard the phrase, “Now that you’re pregnant, eat whatever you want!”? The pickles and ice cream jokes practically write themselves. But if you’ve been losing weight for fertility, the moment you see two lines on that test, a whole new set of food worries can kick in. In this week’s episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, we address everything eating and weight loss during pregnancy. Find out: The surprising reason a “pregnancy free-for-all” rarely happens when we listen to our bodies How having a simple pregnancy protocol calms our brains (and wipes out food panic!) The hunger scale and food date—what happens to both when you’re growing a human and everything feels unfamiliar Pregnancy isn’t an invitation to drop all we've learned and worked for—it’s an opportunity to care for ourselves (and our babies) even better. Ep 176: I Don't Need to Know What Food You're Eating
We’ve all been there—sitting in front of a sad salad (that we don’t even like), giving ourselves a silent gold star for “good behavior”—when all we really want is ANYTHING else. But what if the secret to losing weight doesn’t have to include bland salads, relentless food policing, or reporting every bite? In today's episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, we reveal the liberating world of weight loss without restriction, shame, or punishment. Here’s what we uncover together: Food Lists? We Don’t Need Them. Instead of treating foods as “good” or “bad,” we focus on the hunger scale—tuning into our bodies and eating what works for us, guilt-free. Ice cream, burgers, salads—they all fit in as long as we’re listening to our body and her needs. Our Body Is the Boss. We get curious about what foods actually feel good, not just what we “should” be eating. By checking in with our hunger and satisfaction cues, we naturally gravitate toward choices that energize us (not punish us). Sustainable = Enjoyable + Flexible. This approach isn’t just about releasing fat for fertility—it’s about learning a skill that lasts a lifetime, during pregnancy and beyond. No more diets destined to fizzle out after a few weeks! Together, we’re on a path to treat ourselves with compassion, to experiment (hello, ice cream AND roasted veggies (not together 😜)), and to foster a relationship with food and our bodies that feels both kind and sustainable. Let’s ditch the diet mentality and embrace a better way—one meal, one hunger check-in at a time. Ready to learn what real food freedom sounds like? Press play on the podcast now! That sneaky thought pops up almost every time—and trust me, it’s not a sign to lose more weight. It’s just your brain being its predictable, dopamine-seeking self 🧠 This week on the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, we dive into that quirky part of your mind that never seems quite satisfied. Here’s what you’ll hear in this episode: Why your brain always asks for “just 5 more pounds” —even after reaching your carefully chosen goal, and how dopamine and diet culture play a role. What to do when your mind nags you to keep losing —the simple, loving technique to acknowledge the thought without judgment or drama. How learning to tolerate discomfort transforms not just weight loss, but your entire fertility journey —including waiting for results, coping with uncertainty, and nurturing your emotional resilience. Ep 174: The Inverse Relationship of Discomforts and Why It Guarantees Weight Loss
Have you ever left the dinner table feeling so stuffed you needed to lie down—pants unbuttoned, remote in hand, thinking, "Why do I always do this?" There's a good answer to that question and it's NOT "there's something wrong with me" There’s an inverse relationship at play When it comes to emotional eating: if we eat more, we feel feelings less So in order to eat less, we have to be willing to feel our feelings more Emotional resilience guarantees lasting weight loss! In this week’s episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast: We build emotional resilience. By practicing the hunger scale, you naturally become less tolerant of the physical discomfort from overeating—and more comfortable with those sometimes tricky emotions instead. Overeating fades, weight loss lasts. Eating only when you’re truly hungry keeps you at your natural weight—no restriction, just satisfaction. Life gets clearer and sweeter. When food isn’t used to dull our emotions, we get to discover more about what brings us joy and what we really need. With just a little practice, you can quiet the discomfort—physically and emotionally—and make space for confidence and real joy (and maybe even that hobby you’ve been meaning to get back to). Let’s make discomfort work for you, not against you. Ep 173: You Need Buy-In From You
Have you ever felt completely stuck—like no matter how hard you try, you just can’t make yourself do the thing you want to do?🙋♀️ This week on Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, I share a brand-new way my client (and I!) learned to ditch the inner drill sergeant and create real, lasting change—without the guilt and shame. What if your “resistance” isn’t a flaw to bulldoze over, but a signpost for what you and your body really need? Here’s why you don’t want to miss this episode: 🖼️ We reframe resistance: It's data, not defiance. Learn why noticing push-back is actually a superpower for weight loss instead of a personal failing. 😉 I spill the secrets: I let you in on how I moved from beating myself up to compassionately keeping my word—and watched my productivity (and happiness!) soar. 🔐 We see that kindness fuels experimentation: Weight loss means trial and error. Success only comes if you know you won’t shame yourself for stumbles—because trust, not guilt, sparks progress. So, next time you feel stuck, check for resistance, meet it with curiosity, and build trust, one kind word at a time. Tune in and discover how being on your own side changes everything. Ep 172: Comfort Food?
Did you ever find yourself reaching for the salami rose at a party, not to fill your hunger but to fill the awkward silence? You’re not alone! Emotional eating is a universal tactic for dealing, but one we can lovingly rewire. Which is great news for permanent weight loss 😉 In this episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast here's the heart of it: ❤️ Emotional eating = all eating when we’re not hungry. It’s not about willpower—it’s just a learned way to comfort ourselves, but it keeps us stuck with extra pounds and unprocessed feelings. 🩷 Comfort can come from anywhere—doesn’t have to be food. Whether it’s a child’s lovey or your favorite playlist, self-soothing can be deliciously food-free. 💜 Processing feelings is freedom. When we learn the simple skill, there's no need to eat our feelings—then weight loss feels effortless. So the next time a feeling hits, it'll be easier to give ourself comfort that doesn’t come in a wrapper. Building the skill for lasting change—and handing down a new, kinder legacy--means a totally different relationship with food. And smaller jeans too. Ep 171: A Food Date Is The Fail Safe for Your Weight Loss
Ever wish there was an insurance policy for your weight loss—a simple system that keeps your hard-earned progress safe no matter what life throws your way? There is! It’s called a Food Date. We haven’t chatted about Food Dates in a while, so consider this your official refresher (or a fabulous intro if you’re new here!). Here’s why this quick, weekly practice is your secret weapon: It’s a gentle failsafe. Just like bumpers at a bowling alley or the silent brakes on an elevator, a food date quietly keeps you on track—even when life gets busy, kids grow, routines shift, or old habits try to sneak back in. It only takes 5–10 minutes a week. Once a week, with your calendar and (maybe) a log of your meals and feelings, you ask yourself three things: What worked? What didn’t? What will I do differently? That’s it. Short, sweet, and oh-so-informative. It’s all about real life. Forget restrictive, fussy plans. Your Food Date is about being honest with yourself, planning around your actual schedule (including dessert and takeout!), and making loving, realistic decisions for the week ahead—no shame, just curiosity and kind awareness. A weekly Food Date isn’t about perfection—it’s about connection. You get to stay close to your goals, adapt gracefully when things change, and gently step back on the path if you veer off. This simple habit protects your weight loss, supports your fertility, and helps ensure you always feel at home in your body. Ep 170: Best Valentine's Day Gift Ever
Oh, Valentine’s Day. The clichés abound — heart-shaped boxes of chocolates, prix fixe dinners, romance dialed up to eleven -- and all the pressure to make the day “perfect” while staying on track with our weight loss. But what if the best gift we gave wasn’t found in a box of candy or a fancy meal, but in our willingness to tune in to our true desires, both when it comes to hunger and our heart? Here’s why you won’t want to miss the latest Weight Loss for Fertility podcast episode: I reveal the greatest gift you can give your loved one (and yourself!) this Valentine’s Day—and it’s not what you’d expect. Ep 169: Birthdays and Weight Loss for Fertility
Oh, birthdays. They’re supposed to be sprinkled with confetti and wrapped up in joyful celebration 🎉 But when you’re in the throes of fertility treatments and striving toward weight loss, sometimes that “special day” feels more like an unwanted reminder than a reason to party. Here’s the truth: When the candles come out, you can be grateful for the celebration and tender about what you’re missing—both at the same time. Here’s how you can honor yourself on your birthday, even when it feels complicated: No Judgment Zone – Let’s drop the guilt about whatever you feel. Want a big bash? Fabulous! Want to hang out in jammies and avoid the world? Also perfect. You get to choose what feels right—even if it surprises you. Ask What You Really Want – Take a moment to check in. Sometimes, what you crave most isn’t the party or the presents, but the essence of connection, adventure, or a little TLC. Practice Self-Honoring – Whether you’re planning an exotic getaway or dreaming of a quiet afternoon, listen to what your heart is saying. That’s the first step toward giving yourself what you need—today, and all the birthdays to come. You deserve to be celebrated, just as you are—messy feelings and all. So, this year, ask yourself: “What do I want?” Honor the answer, without judgment. Let the spirit of your wish shine through, whatever form it takes. Happy birthday, Sweet One. Whenever that may be. Ep 168: How to Say No and Mean It
Family, food, and weight loss... sounds like the setup for an epic showdown, no? It’s that old tug-of-war between wanting to care for ourselves and not wanting to disappoint the ones we love. In this week’s episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, I share the story of a client who took a stand with her mom (a notorious food pusher 😜)—and the magic that happened next. You’ll want to hear this if: You dread the tension of “disappointing” loved ones when you make choices for you (especially around food). You’re ready to transform old childhood coping mechanisms (hello, saying yes when you mean no) and build deep self-trust—essential for sustainable weight loss. You love real-life solutions that get you through the hard stuff without guilt or drama. What’s most beautiful is that this work—gently honoring your needs and letting others have theirs—helps you become more yourself. Yourself with ease, clarity and the confidence to make kind, conscious decisions that lead to permanent weight loss. Tune in now to find out how. Ep 167: The Key to Getting to the Gym, Even If You're Dragging Your Feet
Does it even count if you have to drag your butt to the gym, groaning all the way? You bet! Perkiness not required in order to effectively introduce a healthy habit 😉 We don’t need to be perfect or endlessly optimistic to make real progress on our way to being healthier, stronger, and ready for our next IVF cycle. Let me show you why in this week's episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast. We unpack: Progress over perfection: We don’t need to ace every new habit, or always have positive vibes. Doing the tough thing—even if we grumble—still counts, big time. It’s not about being flawless, it’s about showing up. Anticipating the resistance: Like kids groaning about chores, our brain will resist new routines—especially ones that involve exercise, healthy eating, or breaking old patterns. If we plan for that resistance (and accept it), we’re more likely to stick with our goals. Celebrate every win: Whether it’s dragging ourselves to the gym or following the Hunger Scale, we’re building trust with ourselves. Recognizing and celebrating even the “imperfect” wins is key to lasting success. Let’s anticipate a little pushback, keep our eyes on the bigger picture, and toss ourselves a metaphorical gold star for every step we take—smiling not required! Ep 166: Time to Break Holiday Habits
The holidays are over…so why does the house look so empty—but my morning tea STILL taste like peppermint bark? If you find yourself clinging to holiday snacks, treats, or those special festive habits, this episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast is for you. Let’s talk about getting back to “normal”—without the drama or self-blame. Here’s what you’ll take away: Why snapping out of post-holiday eating is easier than you think: New habits are quicker to change than old ones (and you can ditch them without punishment or guilt!). The real scoop on “hedonic adaptation”—why special things (twinkly lights, pumpkin pancakes, holiday coffees) stop feeling special if we have them all the time, and how to use this phenomenon to your advantage. A simple, loving blueprint for noticing and resetting holiday hangover habits—so you step into weight loss with more confidence and self-kindness. And as you say goodbye to those holiday habits, you can remind yourself: That means the season was special. You’ve got something sweet to look forward to next year—and you’re consciously creating the life (and body) you want, one loving choice at a time. Ep 165: Feeling Motivated to Lose Weight? Here's what to do.
It’s the first week of 2026. New calendars, new ambitions, and if we’re honest — maybe the same old worries about our bodies. That siren song of “New Beginnings” is everywhere. What if you could harness that wave of motivation and ride it—without all the self-judgment, restriction, and heartache that usually washes ashore? Tune in to this week's episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast to discover: Why the traditional “new year, new you” diet approach actually damages self-trust—and what to do instead How to spot—and gently uproot—all-or-nothing thinking so you can avoid the wild swings between broccoli-only and Doritos-for-dinner. How using the hunger scale and food dates creates sustainable, guilt-free weight loss—even (and especially) during fertility treatments. So if you feel that spark of New Year motivation—fantastic! Ep 164: What To Do When You Hate Your Body
New Year, New You? Not So Fast. This week on the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast I’m getting real about something we ALL wrestle with—how to make peace with our bodies right now, not “when things get better. ” Because hating our body? It doesn’t work. (Trust me, I’ve got the science and the stories.) Feel better in your skin today. Here’s how we make that happen: ● Discover the ONE decision that can start melting away self-criticism right now—no fancy steps required! ● Learn a simple “equal air time” trick for balancing those mean mental comments so you can finally hear the loving ones. ● Experience a powerful exercise (it involves a paper bag!) to see your body with new appreciation--triggering curiosity, not contempt. Loving our bodies doesn’t mean pretending they’re perfect (or ignoring our goals!). It means partnering with ourselves, being grateful for what’s working, and changing from a place of compassion. 🎉 Hit play and let’s start loving the body we’re in—because after this episode, you’ll never look in the mirror the same way again!Links: Click the links below to lose weight now, the Weight Loss for Fertility way: Website - stephaniefeinmd.com - Facebook - Instagram - LinkedIn

Ep 163: Holiday Survival Kit
Nothing puts our weight loss plans to the test quite like a family holiday party! We know the drill—festive foods everywhere, nosy relatives, and hours to kill. But guess what? We can handle it all with grace, a little strategy, and maybe a dash of mischief. In this episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, we’re rolling out your Holiday Survival Kit—one that keeps you true to your goals and lets you actually enjoy the season. Here’s your quick guide to surviving—and thriving: Attend on your own terms: You don’t have to go. And if you do, you don’t have to stay long. Choose what feels right for you. Eat with joy, not guilt: Use the hunger scale—eat when hungry, stop when satisfied. Savor your favorites! No restriction necessary. Handle questions with charm: A prepared, gentle answer (“I’m on my way!” or “We’ll share good news when we have it!”) plus a quick redirect back to them works every time. If anxiety or boredom strikes, pivot to soothing or fun activities—help out, play with the kids, or sneak in a walk. Remember: You’re in charge of this party season, not the buffet or anyone else’s opinions. One loving decision at a time adds up. So celebrate your wins, big and small. It’s a big deal to honor yourself at these gatherings. With every party, you’re building skills and self-love. Then permanent weight loss is yours. Ep 162: The Conversation That Guarantees Weight Loss
Ever wish you could throttle that annoying voice in your head—the one sabotaging your weight loss efforts by telling you you “deserve” the cupcake, or "we can start tomorrow"? There's actually a better way to turn down the volume on your inner frenemy. No violence required. In this week’s episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, we’re learning about the conversation that guarantees weight loss. Find out: How to handle the annoying “resistance” voice in your head—without bullying yourself or giving up Real-world scripts for responding to sabotage with the warmth of a loving mom (rather than your usual inner critic) Why practice dialog with your inner tempter makes it easier to handle unsolicited advice or comments from family (hello, holidays) If you’re ready to swap shame for self-kindness and actually follow through on the healthy changes you crave, this episode's for you. Ep 161: B- Work
Ever felt like if you can’t do something perfectly, you might as well not do it at all? 🙋♀️ Oh friend, you are NOT alone! The tug-of-war between “all or nothing” thinking is one of the biggest roadblocks to permanent weight loss—especially when you’re hoping to conceive, navigating treatment, or figuring out your new normal as a mom. This week on the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, I’m inviting you to step into the “gray zone”…and embrace the magic of B- work. 💫 Here’s what you’ll discover in this episode: Why all-or-nothing thinking sets you up to fail and actually damages your relationship with yourself (trust me, a beat down is not the way!) How letting yourself do “B-” work is the real secret to permanent weight loss—yes, even if your inner overachiever is screaming Simple, loving ways to practice imperfect action—from experimenting with the hunger scale to rethinking food “rules”, so you actually move forward (not backwards) You deserve freedom, not the straightjacket of perfection. Permanent change comes from compassion, curiosity, and (spoiler!) embracing a little mess. Ep 158: Thanksgiving is the Halfway Point
The holiday season is like summer school for weight loss. You’re thrown into accelerated learning—stress, family drama, food temptations—like a mashup of all the hardest challenges, crammed into six shiny, calorie-laden weeks. Here’s how to emerge from the Bermuda Triangle of Weight Gain with an A (or at least a B+): Check Your Course, Just Like a Pilot Airplanes stay on track by constant, tiny course corrections. Same goes for weight loss during the holidays! Don’t panic if things feel off—just check in, gather your data, and re-align. Let Data Be Your Guide (Not Your Judge) Your weight, your habits, how your clothes fit—these are just information. Approach them with curiosity and gentleness, like accepting a toddler’s finger-painting. No self-criticism required! Three Magic Questions: What Worked? What Didn’t? What Will I Do Differently? Start by celebrating your wins (no matter how small), then get specific about what didn’t go as planned. Use that intel, without an ounce of shame, to tweak your next steps. Remember: perfection is NOT the goal—progress is. Did Halloween feel more like a trick than a treat? All is not lost. The holidays don't have to be an unstoppable slide into regret and tight waistbands. You can course correct at any time—one loving decision at a time. Ready to trade guilt for progress and have some fun along the way? Ep 157: Discover Your Personal Weight Loss Curriculum
There’s a curriculum for permanent weight loss—and no, it doesn’t involve memorizing calorie charts or swearing off chocolate forever. What if your weight loss journey wasn’t about willpower, but about uncovering your own personal set of skills and lessons—your curriculum—for change? Here’s the scoop: The Path to Permanent Weight Loss is Uniquely YoursLike Stephanie Fein MD says, losing weight and keeping it off forever requires discovering and tackling your personal challenges, not someone else’s. Emotional eating, mindless munching, and honoring your physical needs—each obstacle is revealing the exact skills you need to master. Every Roadblock is Just a Lesson Waiting to Be LearnedThat moment you eat out of boredom after dinner, or skip lunch before a stressful boss meeting? Those aren’t failures. They’re clues! Each one is nudging you toward building new habits—like mindfulness, emotional regulation, and boundary-setting. Skills for Weight Loss = Skills for LifeThe incredible part? Every skill you build for weight loss (like handling emotions, paying attention to hunger, and self-advocacy) spills over into your relationships, your work life, even the way you handle your mother-in-law! Once you learn these, you truly can’t “unring the bell”—they’re yours, for life. You’re not doing it wrong, and you’re not missing some magical secret. The “hard parts” are just places where you need new skills, not evidence you’re weak. Be loving and gentle with yourself. Gather every “oops” as precious data for you to work with, and remember: permanent weight loss comes from building skills—not beating yourself up. Dive in, start where you are, and let every difficulty guide you toward lasting change. Tune in to Episode 157 to show you how. Ep 156: 5-Minute Funeral
We've all felt it—the quick pang of disappointment when something doesn’t go our way. Maybe it’s a canceled appointment, a surprise on the scale, or a fridge full of spoiled food. The urge to stomp around in frustration is real. But what if we could handle these “bummer” moments with ease and grace, moving forward instead of getting stuck in the muck? Enter the “Five Minute Funeral”—a deceptively simple, powerful tool introduced right here, right now in this episode. The name might sound intense (no grief or loss minimized here!), but in practice, it’s a short, intentional pause to honor everyday disappointments—so we can actually move on. Here’s how the Five Minute Funeral can transform any journey: Feel without judgment: Those small but uncomfortable feelings—disappointment, frustration, boredom—are totally normal. Acknowledge the feeling, name it, and be with it for just five minutes. No stomping or shaming, just noticing. Make space for change: By honoring our emotions briefly, we create the mental space to accept reality and see new possibilities. Suddenly, cleaning out a spoiled fridge becomes an opportunity, not a catastrophe! Free up our energy: When we aren’t fighting reality or rejecting our feelings, we free up energy for conscious action. Whether it’s making different choices about food or calmly handling life’s curveballs, it's easier to move forward with clarity and intention. Every time. So next time disappointment sneaks in, give yourself a little Five Minute Funeral. Feel the feeling. Honor it. Then step forward—lighter, clearer, and more loving towards yourself. Developing this skill makes losing weight so much easier--and makes keeping it off possible. Listen to episode 156 now. Ep 155: The Better Way to Halloween and Still Lose Weight
Oh, Halloween 🎃 For years, it marked the beginning of my personal Bermuda Triangle of weight gain—a nine-week parade (from Halloween through New Years) of sweets, treats, and food-centric festivities where “just one more” felt like a nightly mantra. Not anymore. Let's face it, most of us have been sold the diet culture lie that banning candy and white-knuckling our way through the holidays is the only path to weight loss. It's not 🙅♀️ In the latest episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, I break down why THIS season can be the very best time to lose weight—and how we can enjoy our favorite treats and still make progress. Here’s a taste of what you’ll learn: The #1 secret to permanent weight loss (it’s about how you feel, not just what you eat) How to have Halloween candy (and holiday treats!) without guilt, shame, or deprivation Simple planning tricks to avoid falling into the Bermuda Triangle of weight gain between now and New Year’s If you’re ready to ditch diet culture's version of weight loss: Halloween edition, and let kindness lead the way, this episode was made just for you. Ep 153: Hunger Scale Handbook Series #6: -4
Ever get so busy, you push through breakfast, skip lunch, and by late afternoon, you’re ready to eat anything in sight? It feels like your body's a bottomless pit, impossible to fill and you blame yourself for having “no willpower.” Today’s episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast is part of the Hunger Scale Handbook Series and is all about why this happens and how to make peace with your hunger. Here’s what you need to know: When We Get “Over-Hungry” (-4 on the Hunger Scale): Letting yourself get famished disrupts your hunger hormones and makes it almost impossible to stop eating when you want to. Suddenly, “satisfied” feels out of reach! It’s Not a Character Flaw—It’s Biology: Going too long without eating sets off a physical cascade that overrides your best intentions. You’re not weak or broken; your body's just doing what it’s designed to do. Planning is Your Superpower: The trick isn’t perfection—it’s noticing patterns and planning for them. Keep snacks on hand, pay attention to your early hunger, and forgive yourself when life gets hectic. So no more waiting until we’re ravenous and ready to gnaw the arm off a chair. Learning to listen to our body with the Hunger Scale—eating at -2 (just hungry), stopping at +2 (satisfied, not stuffed)—leads to lasting weight loss. No gnawing required. Ep 152: Hunger Scale Handbook Series #5: +3
On this week's episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, we talk about the difference between satisfied and full, and why that tiny distinction is the golden ticket to losing weight (and keeping it off) when you’re trying to conceive. Here’s what stood out from our Hunger Scale deep dive into +3 FULL: Full vs. Satisfied—Spot the Difference: We often confuse being “full” (+3 on the Hunger Scale) with being “satisfied” (+2), but that small difference is where permanent, sustainable weight loss lives. Our bodies only need enough, not the absolute max—we’re talking content, not uncomfortable! Learning from Overeating—Experimentation is Key: Instead of beating ourselves up for overshooting to “full,” we can treat those moments as goldmines of information. By working backwards from “full,” we discover what “enough” really feels like—no shame necessary, only curiosity. Mind Games at the Table: Sometimes it’s not our stomachs but our minds that want just one more bite—hello, clean plate club and "it's just so good!" Differentiating physical from mental hunger is a game-changer, setting us up for long-term success (and a happier relationship with food). Each meal is a new chance to notice, tweak, and get closer to that sweet spot of “satisfied.” Honoring your body—by stopping at “enough”—is the foundation for not just weight loss, but a way of eating that feels calm, loving, and sustainable for the long haul. Ep 151: Hunger Scale Handbook Series #4: -5 & +5
Ever feel like your hunger is all over the map—one minute you’re ravenous, the next you’re so full you can barely move? (Who hasn't?!) Well, what if we could use those extremes to actually guide us to a saner relationship with hunger and eating . . . leading to relatively effortless weight loss. We can and in this week's Weight Loss for Fertility podcast we shine a spotlight on the outer edges of the Hunger Scale: those infamous -5 and +5 zones (think: “hangry, empty desert” to “Thanksgiving-stuffed doesn’t even cover it”). Here’s what we discover when we peek over the edge: How our boundaries keep us (and our hormones) sane. Why the extremes of hunger and fullness—being “Thanksgiving stuffed” or “completely empty”—are the very edges to avoid for real, lasting weight loss (and how diet culture gets this SO wrong). The science behind why getting too hungry (hello, -5!) always seems to bounce us straight to overeating—and how breaking that “all-or-nothing” cycle helps protect your fertility journey. Compassion as the secret weapon: How noticing our patterns, without self-judgment or harshness, sets us up for permanent change and a peaceful relationship with food. Boundaries, bumps, and baby steps forward—that’s how we transform our eating patterns, one compassionate, hunger-scale meal at a time. And as we practice, our tolerance for those uncomfortable extremes shrinks, leaving us calmly, confidently right in the sweet spot. If you’re ready to ditch the extremes, embrace your own boundaries, and make peace with mealtime, tune in to this week’s episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast 🎧 Links: Ep 2: Hunger Scale https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2147828528 Ep 69: Hunger Scale Spotlight: +2 https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2148563099 Ep 70: Hunger Scale Spotlight: -2 https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2148565944 Ep 47: Hunger Scale Spotlight - The Extremes -5 & +5 https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2148186849 Ep 34: Hunger Scale Spotlight: +3 (full) https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2147978496 Ep 122: Hunger Scale Spotlight: -4 https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2148995257 Ep 21: Hunger Scale Spotlight: -1 (handling discomfort) https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2147911958 Click the links below to lose weight now, the Weight Loss for Fertility way: Website - stephaniefeinmd.com - Facebook - Instagram - LinkedIn

Ep 150: Hunger Scale Handbook Series #3: -2
Let’s be honest—reconnecting with our actual hunger cues can feel about as foreign as reading hieroglyphics on a cave wall. But what if we could get back to that “factory settings” relationship with food—the one we had as babies, before diet culture, social media, or that friend who counts almonds got in our heads? That’s exactly what we’re exploring in this week’s deep dive into the ever-trusty hunger scale. Getting reacquainted with our “just hungry” zone (-2) on the scale isn’t just about weight loss—it’s the key to feeling good in our bodies, solving for overeating, and therefore boosting our chances of conception. Here’s what stood out as we learned to spot—and embrace—our personal -2: Over-hunger sets us up for overeating. When we ignore our hunger (hello, busy workdays and endless coffee!), we end up ravenous. And willpower has nothing on powerful hunger hormones—skipping meals just means we’re more likely to wind up eating past the point of satisfaction (and feeling like we “did it again”). Tuning in takes practice, not perfection. Everyone’s body registers “just hungry” in a different way—a rumbling stomach, mood shifts, brain fog, or simply a subtle feeling in our gut. It’s up to each of us to get curious, experiment, and notice what signals show up, knowing it might take a few tries—and that’s perfectly fine. The hunger scale keeps us on track—and kind. Checking in with ourselves often (even setting alarms if we need a nudge) helps us spot -2 before it becomes -4 or, gasp, -5. The trick is regular, gentle check-ins and keeping meals ready so we can respond to hunger cues with kindness and confidence. This process isn’t about rigid rules or deprivation. It’s about treating ourselves with the same loving attention we’d give a dear friend—or, frankly, a baby! As we learn and practice, let’s celebrate every small win. Each check-in and meal enjoyed at “just hungry” is a step toward the sustainable well-being we want. Ep 149: Hunger Scale Handbook Series #2: +2
You were born knowing exactly how to eat for your body. No, really. Before everyone and their mother (literally) started telling you when, what, and how much to eat, your body gave you perfect, clear signals—like a tiny, adorable neon sign flashing “I’m hungry!” or “I’ve had enough!” But somewhere between lunch in a highchair and college midnight pizzas, you got a little... disconnected. Enter the Hunger Scale—a simple yet profound tool to help you lose weight (and keep it off), without ever going near a deprivation doom spiral again. Here’s what you absolutely need to know from this week’s episode: Satisfied, Not Full is Your New Destination: Forget “full.” The true magic happens at “+2” on the hunger scale—where you feel fueled, comfortably satisfied, and ready to live your life (yes, even if someone suggests a walk or, ahem, a little after-dinner romance). No discomfort, no naps required. Your Brain Isn’t Your Stomach: Your body knows when it’s had enough. Your brain (bless its dramatic heart) just wants pleasure, comfort, and maybe another cookie “for the road.” Shifting from brain-driven eating to body-based eating is the real game-changer. You Didn’t Mess This Up—You Were Set Up: Years of well-meaning advice, family habits, and restaurant-sized portions made you ignore your satisfied signal. This isn’t your fault, but it is something you can gently (and joyfully!) relearn. Imagine always feeling good in your body—energized, clear-headed, and ready to do what matters most to you. That’s the power of stopping at “satisfied, not full.” Links: Ep 2: Hunger Scale https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2147828528 Ep 69: Hunger Scale Spotlight: +2 https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2148563099 Ep 70: Hunger Scale Spotlight: -2 https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2148565944 Ep 47: Hunger Scale Spotlight - The Extremes -5 & +5 https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2148186849 Ep 34: Hunger Scale Spotlight: +3 (full) https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2147978496 Ep 122: Hunger Scale Spotlight: -4 https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2148995257 Ep 21: Hunger Scale Spotlight: -1 (handling discomfort) https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2147911958 Click the links below to lose weight now, the Weight Loss for Fertility way: Website - stephaniefeinmd.com - Facebook - Instagram - LinkedIn

Ep 148: Hunger Scale Handbook Series #1: The Scale
Ever feel like your hunger is running the show instead of the other way around? You’re not alone—and today, we’re taking back the reins with a little help from a secret weapon I like to call the Hunger Scale. We are kicking off the Hunger Scale Handbook Series--a 7 week deep dive into the nitty gritty of the #1 tool for sustainable weight loss: The Hunger Scale Today's episode is Episode #1 Here’s what we’re digging into: The Hunger Scale: Our Trusty Compass We learn a simple scale -- from "weak and ravenous" at -5 to "Thanksgiving-level stuffed" at +5. Our goldilocks zone? Eating at hungry (-2) and stopping at satisfied, not full (+2). Why Staying in the Sweet Spot Matters We talk about what really happens when we let ourselves get too hungry (brain goes offline, and suddenly we’re devouring whatever’s in arm's reach), and why stopping when we’re “just satisfied” (not full) is where the magic happens. Reconnecting with Ourselves In a world that can make us feel betrayed by our bodies, learning to check in kindly and consistently is a radical act of self-trust. Plus—it’s the best primer for understanding emotional eating down the line. Here’s the best part: as we practice, checking in with our hunger becomes second nature. Every little success builds confidence, trust, and a sense of ease with food we never thought possible. Our bodies can be trusted, and we can make peace with eating. Feeling a little spark of hope? Let’s stoke that fire! Grab your favorite headphones and listen to this first episode of the Hunger Scale Handbook Series from the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast—you’ll find all the encouragement and science-backed tools you need to make weight loss for fertility simple, sane, and genuinely doable. Ep 146: All Processed Foods Are Not Created Equal
This week on the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, you're getting a fresh episode and some important real talk about food choices—a topic I don’t often cover. We're talking whole foods vs. processed foods vs. ultra-processed foods. You already know that whole foods (think fruits, veggies, foods that look like they do in nature) are good for you. They’re nutrient-packed, great for your gut flora and keeping inflammation at bay. But—life isn’t all or nothing, and “all kale, all the time” is not realistic for most of us. So along with encouragement to choose whole foods, comes a big dose of grace. First the definitions: Whole Foods:These are foods in their natural state—unprocessed and full of fiber and nutrients. Think apples, beans, whole grains, fish, etc. Processed Foods:Anything changed from its original form (chopped, cooked, frozen, roasted, etc.). Minimally processed is totally fine and can make healthy eating easier. Ultra-Processed Foods:Long ingredient lists, lots of additives, not ingredients you’d find in a home kitchen (think soda, candy, hot dogs, many packaged snacks). These are highly palatable, energy dense, provoke inflammation, and make it easier to overeat. Next: What Matters for Fertility and Weight Loss Excess stored fat and ultra-processed foods both stoke inflammation, which can impact fertility. If you have to choose where to start, focus on sustainable fat loss—not perfection. The goal: Slowly lean toward more whole foods and fewer ultra-processed foods, without beating yourself up for enjoying a soda or a snack sometimes. Listen in now for how to tips and a few confirmations that you know a lot already 😉 You've got this (and I'm always here to help) ❤️ Links: Ep 19: Your Questions - What Should I Eat? https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2147904630 Click the links below to lose weight now, the Weight Loss for Fertility way: Website - stephaniefeinmd.com - Facebook - Instagram - LinkedIn

Ep 145: Getting Past a Weight Loss Plateau
Have you ever felt totally stuck with your weight loss—and wondered if that stubborn plateau means something’s gone wrong? Time to turn that frown upside down. Plateaus get such a bad rap in weight loss, but in my world, they’re actually a sign of phenomenal progress! In this week's episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast learn how to can give your plateau a little wink and see it for the gift it truly is: Plateau = Maintenance Superpower When your weight holds steady—especially when life is full of travel, work trips, or even surviving PMS—give yourself credit! You’ve proven you can maintain that hard-earned weight loss, which is exactly what you’ll want for lasting change. The Four-Week Rule Don’t let two or three funky scale readings fool you: a real plateau only starts after at least four weeks at the same weight. Water retention, salty meals, your cycle? All normal, all temporary. You’ve got to give your body time to show you real data. Time to Level Up A plateau means your body has settled into a groove—now you’re ready for something new. By fine-tuning your “hunger scale” (my secret saucy tool), and getting curious about those last few bites you leave, you unlock the next stage of sustainable weight loss. Listen to your body, trust yourself, and swoosh—off you go! Each plateau is the universe’s reminder that you’re not starting over—you’re moving forward, learning, and getting ready for your next leap. All without shame, guilt, or beat-downs required. Only gentle curiosity and powerful self-trust. So celebrate your “stuck” moments—they’re the stepping stones to the weight loss you deserve. And as always, if you need a loving nudge or a wise word, I’m just a DM away. Ep 144: Maintaining a Habit Change: Follow-Up of a Follow-Up
We’ve all had that moment—we swear up and down a new healthy habit is here to stay…until it quietly sneaks out the back door when life gets busy or schedules change. This week on the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, it's the third installment of a real-life habit-change journey, and it’s oh-so-relatable—two years after making a simple (but not easy!) change from eating meals on the couch to eating at the table. Here’s what you’ll discover in this episode: Why some new habits stick like glue (hello, lunch-at-the-table!) and others sneakily unravel when life shifts—plus how to spot it before it gets out of hand. The real secret to evaluating a slip-up without the self-judgment spiral—and why curiosity, not criticism, is the key to permanent change. The exact questions I ask myself when I fall off track, and how you can use this compassionate approach to reclaim any habit, no matter how many times you’ve “restarted.” You deserve a process that honors your resilience and your real life. Ep 143: Decreasing Food Noise Naturally
Ever feel like your brain just won’t stop thinking about your next bite, even when you’re not hungry? There’s a name for that: food noise. And if you’re in the thick of an IVF cycle (or waiting for test results, or just trying to have a “normal” Tuesday), food noise can crank up louder than ever—and make weight loss feel impossible. But there’s a way through. In this week’s episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, I reveal why food noise isn’t your fault—and exactly how to quiet it. Here’s what you’ll get when you tune in: Discover the four surprising triggers that make food noise flare (it’s not just hunger!) Learn why planning your meals is more about brain-calm than broccoli (promise) Understand what to do when emotions want to send you to the pantry—and how you can feel peace without a snack in hand It's possible to have peace around food—even when you’re juggling hormones, stress, and hope by the truckload. Ep 142: How Guilt Prevents Weight Loss
If you find yourself feeling guilty every time you even think about that bag of Cheetos, you’re not alone. But what if I told you that guilt—and its cousin, self-judgment—are not only unnecessary, but actually making your weight loss harder? Here’s how guilt trips you up, and what you can do about it: Food Isn’t Bad, and You’re Not Bad for Eating It Food is not a moral issue. Unless you’re stealing your neighbor’s cupcakes eating is just a decision, not a crime. Guilt Fuels Overeating. The more we tell ourselves we “shouldn’t” have something, the more likely we are to rebel, rush, or even inhale our food—leaving us unsatisfied and, ironically, wanting more. Curiosity and Kindness Are The New Black When food isn’t vilified and guilt is out of the picture, we’re free to be curious: “How does this taste? Am I still hungry? Does my body like this?” With this kind of insight, decisions around food are so much easier to make. Ready to step off the guilt-go-round and finally feel free? Ep 141: Purse Apple Plus
It’s amazing how something as simple as an apple can teach us the most profound lessons about weight loss—and self-love. Let me introduce you to the “purse apple”. No, it’s not the latest iPhone upgrade. It’s that trusty apple you toss in your bag each morning—not always glamorous, sometimes a bit bruised, but always ready to save the day. My brilliant client coined the term, and honestly, I think it deserves a spot in the self-care hall of fame. Here’s the magic behind the humble purse apple (and her protein-packed friends): Purse Apple Power: Carrying snacks (like our trusty apple) isn’t about being overly prepared—it’s insurance against getting so hungry we go off the deep end. Bringing food with us helps us stay on track and avoid the cycle of over-hunger, overeating, and beating ourselves up about it. It’s Not Just the Food—It’s the Trust: Every time we bring what we need and eat when we’re just hungry—not over-hungry—we build a stronger, kinder relationship with ourselves. It’s not a character flaw to overeat when our blood sugar is tanking! It’s biology. So we set ourselves up for success (think: lunchbox, protein-packed snacks, more food than we might think we need), and we gently skip the self-criticism if things don’t go perfectly. Protein Packs the Punch: While the apple is a classic, pairing our snacks with a protein buddy (string cheese, nuts, yogurt, or even leftovers) gives our satiety staying power. That way, we don’t end up ordering everything on the menu at dinner or finding ourselves elbow-deep in a family-size bag of chips. When we do these things, we’re not just losing weight more easily—we’re nurturing trust with ourselves, building resilience, and learning the art of self-compassion. If we miss the mark? No problem! No shame or beatdowns—we simply notice, adjust, and move forward, knowing we’re making progress in all the best ways You’re learning new things—one bite, one promise, one day at a time. I’m cheering you on, every step of the way 🍏 Listen to Episode 141 now Links: Ep 71: Security Blanket Food - https://www.stephaniefeinmd.com/podcasts/weight-loss-for-fertility/episodes/2148568350 Click the links below to lose weight now, the Weight Loss for Fertility way: Website - stephaniefeinmd.com - Facebook - Instagram - LinkedIn

Ep 140: Rewire the Brain to Feel Better and Lose Weight
It’s wild how a single, unexpected compliment in a dreary elevator can change the entire trajectory of our day. What if we learned to create that magic for ourselves, every day, especially on the bumpy path of weight loss and fertility? This week on the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, we dive headfirst into the secret superpower we all have—but rarely use: choosing where to put our focus, and how that rewires our brains for positivity, progress, and a lot more ease. Here’s how to rewire our brain for those glimmers of good: Our brains are wired to spot the negative—but we can retrain them. Left unchecked, our minds will zero in on complaints, comparisons, and self-criticism (it’s how our ancestors avoided sabertooths, apparently). But just like we can build muscle, we can absolutely build a brain that notices—and enjoys—what’s lovely. Noticing the good isn’t fake positivity—it’s self-care (and weight-loss magic!). Every time we pause to appreciate green lights, sweet puppies, a smile from a stranger, or a Hunger Scale win, we’re not deluding ourselves. We’re literally changing the tone of our days, dialing down stress and nipping the need for “emotional eating” in the bud. We don’t erase the negative—we just give the positive equal airtime. The trick isn’t to banish the grumpy thoughts. Instead, we gently notice them (no judgment), make the link between how we think and how we feel, then deliberately seek out something genuine and good, no matter how small. That’s where the upward spiral begins! Even Mr. Rogers’ mom knew this trick: in crisis, look for the helpers. It doesn’t negate pain, but helps you spot light in the darkness—and that’s what makes change (yes, even weight loss!) both possible and sustainable. Ep 139: Future You – Summer Edition
Isn’t it just wild how well we plan for vacation… but forget to plan for coming home? We’ve all mastered the art of vacation checklists—swimsuits, sunscreen, even healthy snacks for the road. But that wobbly, off-kilter feeling as soon as we walk through our front door? That’s classic post-vacation reentry, and let me tell you, it trips up even the best of us. This week, we’re diving into the art (and loving science!) of setting up our “future selves” for success. Here’s what we discover together: Kindness is key When you plan with love and have realistic expectations for your Future Self, it’s like giving her a big supportive hug. Go beyond wild expectations or harsh restrictions—get practical by being honest. Make it realistic and loving Want the wedding cake? Don’t set your Future Self up for a willpower wrestling match if you know you’ll want it. Plan for a piece. The magic happens when you meet yourself where you are, not where you “should” be. Keep the love loop going Every time you plan ahead—whether it’s bringing a snack in your purse, scoping out a menu ahead of time, or building in a recovery day between challenging family events—you strengthen trust with yourself. You’re showing up as your own best ally, and that partnership makes anything possible, whether it’s losing weight or facing fertility hurdles with grace. Planning for your future self is the ultimate act of self-care. Whether vacation is on the horizon or you’re just bracing for “Monday You,” show her some love by making things easier, not demanding heroic acts of willpower. Ep 138: Summer is a Great Time to Lose Weight
Summer is officially here, and isn’t it practically begging us to feel lighter—in our clothes, our mindsets, and our meals? From fireworks to floaties, July kicks off a season of possibility, and there’s no better time to get intentional about weight loss. Here’s what you'll find in this shorty episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast: Summer invites us to feel lighter—longer days, breezy clothes, and yes, even swimsuits (big hats absolutely encouraged!). But before our brains take a detour to Criticism-ville, we get to choose—literally—the thoughts that fill our summer. Bathing suits aren’t the enemy! In fact, they can teach us the art of gently redirecting our inner monologue—hello, self-compassion, goodbye, negative self-talk. If we master this with a swimsuit, imagine the ripple effect everywhere else. The best summer support system? Fresh fruits, veggies, grilling up deliciousness, and movement that actually feels fun (river floating, anyone?). We don’t have to wait for September to get started—this season is tailor-made for weight loss. Summer is rooting for us—let’s not put our goals on ice! Ep 137: Dissolve Emotional Eating: Here's How
Ever wish you had a superpower—not to leap tall buildings, but to stop the nighttime snack attack after a rough day? Turns out, we all can develop it. It’s called Discomfort Tolerance, and around here, it's our secret to dissolving emotional eating and finding the freedom to lose weight for good. Here are three transformative takeaways from this episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast: Emotional Eating Busted: We’re only truly hungry when our bodies say so, not when we’re bored, sad, or procrastinating about cleaning out the garage. Learning to eat when hungry and stop when satisfied is everything—but wow, do those old habits put up a fight! Meet Discomfort Tolerance: It isn’t about muscling through pain or “sucking it up.” It’s about gently holding space for those uncomfortable feelings instead of reaching for chips to make them disappear. The better we get at noticing and feeling our feelings, the less food becomes our emotional fix. Kindness is the Real Power Move: Changing habits can feel . . . awkward. But when we meet our discomfort with real self-compassion—cheering ourselves on, recognizing the old stories, and choosing kindness—suddenly, we’re not fighting a battle. Ep 136: How To Stay Motivated in Weight Loss
What if your brain could be your biggest cheerleader instead of that annoying critic in your head? Sound impossible? Well, my friend, not only is it possible—I’m here to tell you it’s the secret to lasting weight loss… and a lot more peace in life. In this episode of the Weight Loss for Fertility podcast, I walk you through how rewiring your brain for progress—not problems—is the key to lasting weight loss (and sanity). Here’s how you can get that brilliant brain working for you instead of against you: Brains like problems —but you can give yours a new job. Instead of hunting down everything that’s wrong, direct it to find what’s working, where you’ve made progress, and little moments you can be proud of (It’ll chase that task just as eagerly—promise!) Thoughts create feelings—and feelings keep you motivated. When you focus on the progress you’ve made, it feels good. Good feelings breed motivation, and motivation makes it a thousand times easier to keep going, even when things get tough. Seeing the wins (big and small) grows self-trust and self-regard. That means you start listening to your body, trusting your hunger cues, and treating yourself with the love and tenderness you’d give to someone you cherish. And yes, this is what makes weight loss not only possible, but permanent. It doesn’t always feel easy—especially when your brain wants to rush past wins or discount them altogether. (“Sure I lost weight, but I should have done this years ago…”) But you can change that tune. Start by noticing even the tiniest progress: skipping a snack you didn’t really want, leaving a couple of bites on your plate, or just pausing to ask yourself if you’re hungry. These are no small things—they’re proof of change. Rewiring your brain for progress isn’t just feel-good fluff—it’s the backbone of long-term results. Find the wins. Feel proud. Repeat. Ep 135: Don't Be Surprised by the Number on the Scale
Ever feel like stepping on the bathroom scale is like playing a slot machine—will it land in your favor or leave you in despair? In today’s episode, we put an end to those surprise weigh-ins and wild mood swings, and reclaim the scale as our helpful ally, not our judge and jury. Here’s what you need to know: The number isn’t the villain—the power (and drama!) comes from how we interpret it. It’s our thoughts about those digits that spark the glee (or the gloom). The scale’s just a little machine doing its job, not a measure of your worth, effort, or future success. Predictability beats surprise. By taking just a few minutes once a week (hello, Food Date!) to evaluate: what worked, what didn’t, and what you’ll try differently, you turn weigh-ins into confirmations—not pop quizzes. It’s about information, not punishment. Fat, water, salt, new workouts, and even travel can nudge the scale up or down by pounds overnight. But unless you hosted an ice cream eating contest, big overnight shifts are water—not fat. The scale is giving you data, not delivering a verdict. When we make the scale a tool to confirm what we already know—instead of a source of surprise—it loses its power to mess with our mood. Ready to make peace with the scale and get a big boost of practical, loving advice? Listen now. This episode will have you totally rethinking how you approach weigh-ins—and cheering yourself on, every step of the way. Ep 134: Weight Loss Lasts When We Can Trust Ourselves: How to Develop Self-Trust
Sometimes we think losing weight is all about saying “no” to the cupcake—or the pizza, or, or . . . But what if I told you the true superpower behind lasting weight loss isn’t willpower, complicated food rules, or discipline that borders on superhero status? Instead, it’s something far more powerful: self trust. Let’s dig into why building trust with ourselves is the real magic behind dropping pounds and finally keeping them off. In today's episode we cover: Self Trust is the Meta Skill: Permanent weight loss isn’t about willpower or harsh rules—it’s grounded in building a deep, reliable trust in yourself around food. When you truly believe you’ll have your back in any situation (restaurant, party, or emotional rollercoaster), food stops holding all the power. The Self Trust Recipe: Like the perfect Yin Yang, self trust takes two key ingredients: realistic expectations and follow-through. Ask less of yourself, not more. Start so small you can’t fail. Dreaming of pizza for dinner? Wonderful. Plan for it, eat it with intention, stop when you’re satisfied, and—most importantly—celebrate the fact that you kept your word to yourself. Celebrate, Then Tweak: Each time we keep a promise to ourselves—no matter how small, like eating one less slice or even choosing dinner we genuinely want—we celebrate. If things don’t go as planned, no shame spiral! We simply adjust, learn, and keep moving forward, building trust one loving step at a time. If we get better at knowing ourselves (hello, hunger scale!) and set ourselves up for wins we can realistically achieve, the result is lasting self trust—not just with weight loss, but through all the highs and lows of life and fertility.
