    197. We Didn't Plan For This: The Art of Rebellious Success

What if resilience isn’t about bouncing back? What if it’s about refusing to stay down?In this episode of We Didn’t Plan for This, Adrienne and Nora sit down with Paralympic medalist, World Champion, Army veteran, and self-proclaimed rebel, Lia Coryell. As one of eight children growing up in extreme poverty, Lia learned early that waiting for life to hand you an opportunity wasn’t a strategy. In kindergarten, Lia Coryell decided she wasn’t going to be the “leftover kid.” She was going to learn everything she possibly could. That determination led her to the military, which she saw as her path out of poverty. Even after breaking her leg during basic training, she kept moving forward. And that theme would continue throughout her life.Throughout this conversation, one message rises above everything else: Be rebellious. But be rebellious successfully.Lia reminds us that resilience isn’t something we’re born with. It’s something we build through curiosity, advocacy, hard work, and the willingness to keep showing up when life doesn’t go according to plan. And in true We Didn’t Plan for This fashion, she leaves us with a choice we’ll never forget: You can become bitter. Or you can become better.Team USA Athlete ProfileBoys and Girls Club LacrosseSalvation Army LacrosseParalyzed Veterans of AmericaWEAU NewsSuccessful Rebel YouTubeWXOW News 19Wikipedia BiographySend us Fan MailHow Yoga Changed My Life a PodcastSend Us Your Stories! If you have a story about how yoga, meditation, breath work, journaling, or movement changed your life, we want to hear from you! These podcasts are really about the same thing — how people move through the seasons of life they didn’t plan for, and what helps them along the way.If you’d like to be on the show or share your story:  Fill out our guest form or email us at [email protected] Follow us on TikTok:https://www.tiktok.com/@yogachangedFollow us on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/yogachanged/More info, go to https://howyogachangedmylife.comFor those who have reached out asking how to support Adrienne and her family during this time, click here to donate. We all carry things we were never meant to hold forever.Stress. Grief. Expectations. Worry. Regret. In this guided meditation led by Mia, you’ll imagine carrying a heavy sandbag filled with everything that’s weighing you down. But as the practice unfolds, something begins to change.A small hole appears. Then, grain by grain, the sand begins to fall away. With each breath, the burden becomes a little lighter. The weight shifts. Your shoulders soften. 194. We Didn't Plan For This: The People We Miss

After losing her husband, Brian, Adrienne expected grief. What she didn’t expect was how grief would slowly disconnect her from the people she loves. In this solo episode of We Didn’t Plan for This, Adrienne shares the invisible weight of living in limbo—waiting on probate, facing financial uncertainty, carrying responsibilities that once belonged to two people, and waking up each day with more questions than answers. Every phone call becomes another reminder of what hasn’t been resolved, making it harder and harder to reach out to the people who matter most. This isn’t just a conversation about losing a spouse. It’s about losing pieces of yourself along the way. The version of yourself who you were. If you’ve ever felt stuck in the waiting, overwhelmed by life’s logistics, or quietly disappeared because you simply didn’t have anything left to give, this episode is a reminder that you’re not alone. If this episode resonates, please share it with someone who might need to hear it. 24. In Case of Emergency, Press Play: Whole

In almost every class Adrienne teaches, she tells her students that struggling is inevitable, but suffering is optional. She doesn’t mean we get to choose whether difficult things happen to us or not. But sometimes we add another layer by fighting what we’re already feeling. We tell ourselves we shouldn’t be sad, shouldn’t be anxious, shouldn’t be angry, or that we should be farther along than we are. That struggle can create even more suffering.Today’s meditation is simply an invitation to set that extra layer down, even if it’s only for a few minutes.Sometimes we come to meditation because we want to become calmer, happier, more enlightened, or more awake. But if we look closely, that can become just another form of striving. Just another way of trying to be someone other than who we are in this moment. What if, instead, you didn’t have to become anything? Have you ever walked into a room and completely forgotten why you were there? Do you constantly find yourself trying to remember where you put your keys? Since Brian's unexpected passing in January, Adrienne has found herself forgetting appointments, losing her train of thought mid-sentence, rereading emails multiple times, and wondering if something was actually wrong with her. As it turns out, she’s not alone. In this episode, Adrienne explores the very real experience often called widow brain or grief brain—the memory lapses, brain fog, difficulty concentrating, and decision fatigue that so many people experience after a major loss. She shares her own struggles navigating grief, probate, finances, parenting, and everyday life while trying to function with what sometimes feels like 97 browser tabs open at once.Along the way, she explores cognitive overload and what has helped her cope. Learning that forgetting things may not be a sign that you’re failing—it may be a sign that your brain is working overtime to adapt to a life you never expected. If you’ve ever wondered why grief makes even simple tasks feel harder, this conversation is for you.Because sometimes healing looks a lot less like moving on and a lot more like walking back into the room to remember why you went there in the first place.Send us Fan MailHow Yoga Changed My Life a PodcastSend Us Your Stories! 181. Three Years Later...What Actually Changed?

What happens after the beginning? After spending sometime inside our special series, We Didn’t Plan for This, this conversation felt like a return to the roots of what How Yoga Changed My Life has always been about — how practice evolves alongside real life.Three years after his first appearance on How Yoga Changed My Life, Chris Kennedy returns with a completely different perspective on practice, teaching, creativity, and life.In Chris’ first interview, the core theme was really about beginning before you feel “ready.” His story centered around discipline, transformation, and consistency. Along the way, he discovered parts of himself through Yoga that extended far beyond the mat.Chris has intentionally taken classes from more than 100 different Yoga teachers to study not just what teachers teach, but how they teach. What creates connection? What makes a class memorable? What actually makes people feel something?Chris shares how he lost his father a year ago, and how that loss shifted his relationship with time, work, and joy. This conversation is thoughtful, reflective, and full of reminders that Yoga is often less about perfection — and more about paying attention.Click here for Actually, Yoga on SubstackClick here to listen to 3 Pics with Chris & Clint on AppleClick here to listen to 3 Pics on SpotifySend us Fan MailHow Yoga Changed My Life a PodcastSend Us Your Stories!
