Blood Analysis, what does it mean?

Today we talked with Chris Edwards, founder and owner of Tricore Wellness, about blood analysis testing.  What does it all mean?? We begin our conversation with the difference between "clinical" results and "functional" results.  In striving for optimal health and wellness, what lifestyle changes can we do to improve our blood test results and prevent progression of disease?  We look specifically at four blood test measures: Blood Glucose, A1c, Vitamin D, and Triglycerides. Chris explains each test and explains how diet and exercise approaches can quite effectively improve blood testing results.  We also discuss Alcat testing: a food sensitivity test that shows low grade inflammation that can build over time, often causing digestive distress.  Chris explains that by knowing which foods we are sensitive to, we can replace them with foods that are more tolerable and reduce inflammatory responses.  Lastly, we review CNA testing. CNA testing includes a micronutrient test and an antioxidant protection Assay.  Micronutrient testing measure essential vitamins and nutrients we may be deficient in.  Chris explains that this test is a reflection of long-term nutrient status and not just a "snapshot" as is seen in serum nutrient tests.  The Antioxidant Protection Assay tells us what type of antioxidants one's body responds to most efficiently.  Chris explains what steps one can take following testing to optimize one's health and wellness.  Chris Edwards is a Fitness and Wellness Professional with over 18 years of experience specializing in personal fitness and wellness management.  Chris is a graduate from Florida Gulf Coast University with a B.S. in Business Management, with a concentration in Sports Management.  He holds multiple certifications and achievements in the fitness and wellness industry and is an accomplished competitive powerlifter with a 1607 lbs. Raw Pro Total! As managing director, Chris specializes in business strategy & development, app-services integration, processes optimization, and program development.  Tricore Wellness delivers high end fitness, nutrition and recovery services in a hybrid model.  By blending in-person services with custom branded application services, this wellness company is able to provide clients with the 360-degree wellness ecosystem they deserve.  Tricore Wellness service page: https://tricorewellness.com/wellness-services/ Tricore Wellness blood testing page: https://tricorewellness.com/nutrition/clinical-nutrition/blood-         testing/ Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/tricorewellness Instagram:  @tricorewellness Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/tricore-wellness

OUTLIVE book review with Archnell Souvenir

In this episode, Jill, Gaynell, and podcast guest Archnell Souvenir review the book OUTLIVE: The Science & Art of Longevity by Dr. Perer Attia.  Archnell Souvenir, the Director of Sports Performance at Ave Maria University, is a fitness professional, and entrepreneur based in Naples, FL. With a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from Florida Gulf Coast University, Archnell has dedicated his career to helping individuals achieve their fitness goals and improve their overall well-being. As the owner and operator of Gulf Coast Performance LLC, he has successfully guided countless clients towards better health and fitness through personalized training programs and habit change. Archnell's experience includes serving as the Director of Sports Performance at Ave Maria University, where he led strength and conditioning programs for various collegiate sports teams. His expertise in sports performance, strength training, and injury prevention has been instrumental in developing effective training regimens for athletes of all levels. We begin our conversation with the question "What exactly does "outlive" mean?  Referring to "healthspan" (typically defined as the period of life when we are free from disability or disease), outlive is the ability to die perhaps with disability or disease but not die due to disability or disease. Dr. Attia discusses how, through lifestyle choices, we can outlive the "four horsemen": heart disease, cancer, neurodegenerative disease, and type 2 diabetes and related metabolic dysfunction.  These diseases develop from the accumulation of multiple risk factors typically causing a "slow death".  Dr. Attia describes how each risk factor is relatively easy to reduce or eliminate through lifestyle choices.  The primary risk factors include metabolic health, diet and sleep, exercise, and emotional health.  We discuss briefly each risk factor, then dive into what Dr. Attia calls the "most potent longevity drug" exercise! We focus on four primary types of exercise that together have tremendous effect on overall health and wellness and the ability to OUTLIVE. With Archnell's expertise input, we review Strength, Aerobic efficiency, Max Aerobic output (VO2 max), and stability. Archnell describes what each is, how to measure each, and some great examples of each giving our listeners a guideline to begin or continue to OUTLIVE! Today, we talk with Barb Bollinger, Director of Development for Path2Freedom—a local non-profit, family-first organization that helps victims of human trafficking. Human Trafficking is a big, sophisticated, growing crime that is an assault against our most vulnerable in society – particularly children.  It does not discriminate as it can happen in any community, and victims can be any age, race, gender, or nationality.  It is often a hidden crime because victims rarely come forward, therefore, if you see something, please say something using the Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888. Those that are rescued or brave enough to come forward often experience a long recovery period due to the extensive trauma they have been through. Path2Freedom is here to deliver that long term recovery in a family first trauma informed safe environment. The need for these types of services is great and Path2Freedom has ambitious growth goals to expand providing the hope and healing necessary for long-term restoration of these precious lives. In this episode, we learn that Florida is the "worst state" per capita for human trafficking, a realization that hit hard in the recording studio. While this episode discusses a tough topic, we at SpelLife truly believe in the importance of awareness so we can contribute to making Southwest Florida a better community for everyone. Please listen and learn about the signs of human trafficking, what to do if you suspect human trafficking, and ways to get involved in helping and protecting those in our community who need it most.
