Episode 38 - Nick Thompson - "Love Is Blind" - Spills the 'T' on Mental Health and Reality TV
Hello and welcome to Episode 38. I am so excited for you to meet Nick Thompson. I had the pleasure to talk to Nick a couple of weeks back and now I am so happy to introduce you to him. Sit back and listen while Nick Spills the 'T". You may remember Nick from Netflix's Hit Reality Series "Love Is Blind" Season 2. Nick signed up for this "psychologically-based" love experiment in the hopes of trying something new and possibly find love along the way, little did he know what he would wind up having to endure. During his 3 weeks filming in the PODS and in Mexico he lost 15 pounds from limited access to food and water. The cast experienced extreme conditions while filming, 16 hour days, no regular schedules, no clocks, windows, sunlight and little food and water. Add on the fact that they were not given any mental health support during their time on the show and after the show aired. Can you imagine working under these circumstances? Behind every reality TV show is an editing process that can make or break someone's reputation. This can be a recipe for disaster. Nick is speaking up about human rights and safe standards for all reality tv stars moving forward. Nick is a marketing executive, human connections expert and the host on the podcast 'Eyes Wide Open with Nick Thompson'. Nick is a strong Mental Health Advocate, Activist and Co-founder of the Ucan Foundation - Providers of mental health and legal support to past, current, and future cast members of Reality TV. You can find Nick on Instagram @nthompson513 where you will find all of the links to his podcast channels and to the link to the Ucan Foundation. Episode 36 - Meet Christina G. - Recovery Queen
Warning: The topics in this show are sensitive and graphic at times, this may cause triggers, please listen with self-care and caution. Welcome to Episode 36 - Meet Christina G. Christina is a 34-year-old woman who is a recovering heroin and meth addict. By 15 she was hooked on Adderall and eventually meth. By 19 she was strung out on the needle and doing meth and heroin together. In 2010 Christina's parents sent her to a behavior modification rehab program in Oahu, she lasted 3 months at this facility due to the trauma she experienced while there, at this point she felt her only option was to leave. She was then stuck homeless in Hawaii for the next 10 years. She suffered in her addiction for nearly 16 years, in and out of rehab and ending up on life support as a result of a life-threatening infection caused by IV use. Christina has been clean now since August 19, 2021. She has been tapering down on her methadone treatment from 172 mg to 19 mg. Christina is now a SUD counselor working at a rehab center, working her steps and helping other women find hope in recovery. Her story is raw and it takes so much courage to share. Episode 34 - Meet Melanie Taylor - Men's Mental Health and Support Is Available
Hello and welcome to Episode 34 I would like you to meet Melanie Taylor. Melanie is born and raised a Calgarian, and proud of it! She comes from a large family that faced its challenges early on in life, which ignited her passion for the helping professions. After high school Melanie upgraded the courses she needed and applied for and was accepted into the social work program at MRU. Melanie then transferred to the U of C to complete her bachelors and graduate degree in social work, with a specialization in adult mental health and addiction. While Melanie was in school she gave birth to two amazing humans that she loves dearly and they inspired the work she does today. After the birth of her son it became clear to her early on that how boys are raised in today's society, isn't helpful and at times, can be harmful. The "boys don't cry" culture is still alive and well and this has to change. Today Melanie works with adults that struggle with identifying and feeling emotions which impacts their life in multiple ways. In her work, Melanie started to notice there is a real lack of support and space for men's mental health, and this was something she wanted to help change. So, Melanie created a men's informational support - a 6 week support group where men can learn about the topics that impact and matter to them (mental health, trauma, healthy relationships, and emotions), and it also provides time and space for men to connect and support one another. This group starts January 16th, from 6:30pm-8:30pm every Tuesday for 6 weeks. The final day to register is January 12th - register now to your space!! You can connect with Melanie Taylor on: Instagram @melanie.yyc.therapist and you can also find her at Exhale Psychology and to register for this workshop head to www.exhale-psychology.ca If you enjoyed this episode please give me a follow and share on the following sites. Carry On With Carrie - Episode 27 - Meet Jamie Louise Madigan - Hope after Abuse
Hello and welcome to Episode 27. I would like you to Meet Jamie Louise Madigan. Jamie was born in Dublin, Ireland but currently lives in Calgary, Alberta. Jamie has had a passion for creative writing from a young age. For her, writing is mental clarity – a beautiful platform oozing with vulnerability, infusing zest and brushstrokes into everyday life. Jamie’s debut poetry collection, Lipstick Stains and Coffee Cups was released in February 2023. This book contains 130+ poems, and she is currently at work on her second book. The title Lipstick Stains and Coffee Cups is a metaphorical reflection of the book broken down into two parts. The first half of the book covers the severity and immense psychological distress she experienced after being involved with an abusive and manipulative partner. A lipstick stain is symbolic of this – how a tumultuous relationship leaves a lasting impression. The second half of the book displays a ground-breaking shift in perspective. A euphoric sense of comfort and warmth towards the eccentricities of life. The triumph of the human spirit. The adrenaline rush of new beginnings – like a piping hot cup of coffee. A decade ago, my heart cracked open. These are the remnants. Available at Indigo, independent bookstores, and my website. www.jamielouisemadigan.com Follow me on Instagram @carryonwithcarrie_podcast and on Facebook - Carry On With Carrie - Podcast and of course if this podcast helped you and you think it could help someone else you know please share and follow here on Spotify. Carry On With Carrie - Episode 21 - Meet Lydia Duncan - How to find rest in your EVERYDAY and prioritizing YOURSELF!
Hello everyone and welcome to Episode 21 of Carry On With Carrie - Meet Lydia Duncan owner of Lydia Duncan Coaching Lydia is a certified life coach with the International Coaches Federation (ICF) and the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI). She also has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, with a minor in Psychology as well as a diploma in Communications. Lydia's Bio: I felt like life was happening TO me. I had nothing I'd do just for me. Life wasn't exciting. I’d go to bed every night dreading the next day of the same monotony. I was a grumpy, impatient mom. I felt guilty for being unhappy. I didn't know what I wanted and felt like a failure at what I was already doing. I didn’t know how to be a functioning adult. The idea of change was so overwhelming I tried to ignore the thought of it. Then there were the never-ending questions I asked myself: Who am I as a person, not as a mom or a wife? What kinda person doesn't even know what they want? How can anything change when this is the way it has to be? How can things change when I'm not sure how to change them? What needs to change? After that the guilt really came in and I was so hard on myself. I said things to myself I would never say to anyone else. And I said them over and over and over. I judged myself so harshly – and it was against impossible standards. I felt like I had zero control over my life. I lived it trying to do everything for everyone else. I put everyone’s needs before my own. It took me a very long time to realize I was BURNT-OUT. I really wasn’t myself anymore because I was stuck in survival mode. What’s great about realizing I was burnt-out was that I could then take action to take back control. And that’s exactly what I want to help everyone do. PROFESSIONAL: Lydia Duncan, ACC, CPCC, is trained in designing powerful conversations through which you will have your beliefs and perspectives challenged so you can learn about yourself on a deep level. She guides you with practices to shift your mindset and create new thought patterns. Much of the work done by trained life coaches is based on positive psychology, neuroplasticity, and sociology. Through conversations devoted to you, we develop actions to shift your mindset and progress you toward your goal. Lydia has years of experience working as a coach with diverse clients ranging from teenagers to adults, entrepreneurs to artists, and individuals to organizations. She has helped them achieve their goals, overcome their challenges, and discover their potential. Personal development coaching goes beyond goal-setting, it involves an understanding of self so that you can move forward with confidence and clarity. She believes coaching fills a vital gap in services supporting well-rounded growth. Everyone deserves to feel empowered in their professional as well as in their personal life. Lydia is committed to providing a coaching service where every individual is supported to succeed and live a happier life. Carry On With Carrie - Episode 8 Meet Karli Andreas -Certified BodyTalk Practitioner (CBP) Alternative & Holistic Health Service
Hello everyone, welcome to Episode 8 of Carry On With Carrie. I am so happy for you to meet Karli Andreas, Certified BodyTalk Practitioner (CBP) an Alternative & Holistic Health Service. Karli, often says that she is a human being trying to live as authentically as she can with every passing day. She has many accomplishments that fill her resume such as having a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and 18 years of experience working as an Engineer in Alberta’s petrochemical and oil & gas industry. What is not on her resume is that she is the wife to a darn good fella (almost 15 years married and 19 together), mother to a 7 year old son with an intensity for freedom, variety & independence, and a 6 year old daughter with a need for harmony and giggles. On the very journey to become parents, Karli’s resilience was tested as challenge after challenge seemed to emerge. What she didn’t understand at the time was that the a beautiful blessing was also unfolding, which was BodyTalk; maybe it was the engineer in her, or her curious nature, but she had to understand why she felt so calm, and why her body responded in such positive physical ways after she received a Bodytalk session and she became a student of Bodytalk in 2011. What she learned is that BodyTalk is based on the principles of quantum physics and consciousness - and consciousness is the understanding that everything is connected. As her family expanded and is now maturing, BodyTalk continues to be a regular part of their life and her children often ask for Cortices, a brain balancing technique, whenever they feel overwhelmed. BodyTalk and all consciousness based modalities are rooted in the understanding that the thoughts and belief systems an individual holds in their subconscious mind is what creates their reality, so if we want to have a different experience, we really need to consider the deeply held BS (belief systems) the ego is holding onto for dear life. There is a saying that the mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master. BodyTalk helps the heart to resume its rightful role as master. This is why she keeps practicing BodyTalk; to share the ability to tap into the beauty and joy of the human experience. For more information on BodyTalk you can find Karli on Facebook @Dodeka Insights. Makes you want to listen to this podcast hey? If you feel called to share please do.
